I seen this fight has been confirmed as chief support to Joshua v Ruiz. As most of you will know I am a big fan of Callum Smith's but this is a poor match up and a very disappointing first defense. Eddie Hearn is really taking the **** putting him in with a fringe world level middleweight. What are peoples thoughts ? Am I being to harsh ?
This is easily worse than the Billy Joe Saunders fight against Asufi, at least Asufi was a bigger man!
The fight is 10 days away there’s no way it was ever going to be a worthwhile fight. No you’re not being too harsh. It’s a waste of time I’d rather he just never fought than padded his record. **** this “ticking over” bull **** Hearn will spew. It’s simply to get few more PPV buys from Smith fans. 10 days notice for a middleweight who will be fighting a virtual cruiser weight. This middleweight was kod down there and had a close fight with Martin ****ing Murray last time.
Garbage fight on a garbage card. Coyle-Sexy Chris A is the best fight on the card. That tells you something.
I think the reasoning is that they don't want to risk Smith cause he has been promised the Canelo fight next year So now he will keep busy with these shitty fights until then
That was a main event. A better example involving Saunders would have been when he went from beating Lemieux in a world title fight to being dropped onto the Warrington Frampton card fighting a 40 year old Charles Adamu and failing to even make the light heavyweight limit.
He’s won multiple world titles all be it at a lesser weight and got some decent wins under his belt. This is a fight to knock off a bit of ring rust. There’s not a chance this is worse than Saunders headlining at the Lame x against Germany’s sixth best super middle.
I know, Moog ...but I like you anyway . Wish I could say the same about this steaming pile of manure of a fight....
Its not great, but its its a tune up on Matchrooms most high profile card of the year. I can see Smith becoming primarily a US fighter for the remainder of his career, they want to get some US eyes on him. For all his acclompishments in the WBSS, the poor organisation of last years event didn't do a great deal for his profile. From what Gallagher has said regarding a Saunders fight there seems to be some kind of plan in place for his next couple of fights. Hearn says he'll be out 3 times this year, if its the beginning of a good run of fights I'm not all that concerned.
Agreed, Hearn has done this deliberately so the US get to see Smith batter an opponent where he’ll look great before they put him in with Canelo. The Smith - Canelo fight is definitely happening in the US if it does and this is all part of the plan.
His best days are long gone mate. The first Murata fight was a complete robbery, no way did he deserve that and then he got battered in the rematch by Murata, who isn't that great anyway. Okay win against an also over the hill Murray but moving up to 168 for your first fight against someone the size of Smith is frankly ridiculous. N'Dam may or may not be better at the weight than Isufi but the difference is that N'Dam will likely take a proper bad hiding here at this stage of his career. It's a horrible fight and an embarrassing co-main.
Considering Hearn wants to showcase AJ in the US he's putting on a poor card that is not going to spike a lot of interest.
Smith vs N'dam Coyle vs Algieri Kelly vs Robinson Katie Taylor vs another woman boxer Is that the only other notable fights on the undercard or am I forgetting more? Cos that's pretty poor.
The middle two would make for a good Saturday evening card. They've no business being this pivotal to a PPV card.
