You might want to check Sullivan’s age. I come out with 33.

As I said Corbett has 5 wins over hall of fame opponents. He also drew with a top notch Jackson.

Corbett also had good performances with Jeffries and Fitz who are viewed as better than Max Baer. They caught him late and each man’s will to win towers above the apathetic Baer’s

Baer was a lousy boxer. No jab, but good with illegal back hands. Poor defense. Corbett would land as he pleased and kept the range he wanted to.

Max Baer dropped too many decisions to beat someone as good as Corbett was and some of those losses are to fighters of a similar size of Corbett.

Like I said before I had Corbett at 59-0-3 before his first official loss vs Fitzsimmons.

Box rec has limited info on Corbett. It is estimated that box rex only has 10 percent of the total boxing matches and the further you go back the less data they have

Sullivan was a drunk who had not fought for 4 years. Mitchell was a past prime158lbs fighter. Baer dropped decisions against quality men when he was pre prime. Why don't you address that? Corbetts best win is over a 4 years retired fat drunk and it took him 26 rounds to do it. Corbett has 21 verified professional fights that is according to Corbett,Box Rec,CBZ , IBHOF, and The Ring.

Now name the other 30 men you say he fought. Where can I see their records?

Sullivan trained for that fight and for al we know had more Skill than Max Baer. He won 0 rounds.

Mitchell was not past his prime, he was 32 year old and was blown away. Prior to Corbett Mitchel had not lost a fight in nearly 10 years.

I will post Corbetts 59-0-3 record soon. It's on another server of mine, but I suspect many of the names will be lost to you you since they do not appear at Box rec.

You see to have a he's too old or small, but won't apply the same for Baer's losses. Not an even way to view things. More on who Baer lost to later with a spoiler, these men were not as good as Corbett. When Corbett lost it was only to an ATG,

I guess that you have to ask whether Baer was better or worse, than the punchers that Corbett beat and lost to.

    Shot Sullivan
    Fitzsimmons
    Sharkey
    Green Jeffries
    Prime Jeffries

On his A game I think that he was better than most of these men.

    Rainer,

Here's Corbett's unofficial record. Most of the old timer's CBZ profiles are done by Mr. Tracy Callis, who qualifies as one of the best living historians, and is even a better gentleman. Sadly personal loss ( loss of two children ) took him away from researching , and he never built upon his research profiles at the CBZ, which last I heard is for sale and defund of posters.

Many of the records of the old timers are incomplete. This is especially true of fighters who fought in the 1800's.

Below is a list of three combined reported sources for Corbett's ring record. Based on the combined lists Corbett had 64 fights! A bit more than box rec!

Take note, Corbett was 59-0-3 at one point before losing to Bob Fitzsimmons! Only a true boxing master could achieve such a record.

** the 59-0-3 record assumes the W vs Peter Jackson as listed is really a draw. Otherwise its 60-0-2** Be sure to read the key at the bottom of the page.

Many W's are really Ko wins for Corbett.

First a sample of what Corbett's defense looked like. He was kid quick, with excellent defensive reflexes and mobility. You can see him well past his prime sparring with Kid McCoy, The quickness and fiend are impressive and Corbett must have been 50 for that clip.

    Counter points to consider.

Bear had 22 fights under his belt before losing to Kennedy. That's hardly green. And he was 21, not 20 as you claim.

Loughran ( A smaller Corbett ) Risko and Schaff were decent fighters, a reason why Baer lost and not one of them was in Corbett's class according to the historians of the time. Who are you and I to say they were all wrong?

Schaff was just 22, by your standards green when he beat Baer. And like I said Max had a lot of fights under his belt before this match.

Looks like lots of solid contender types won decisions vs Baer, and many contenders he beat went the distance. Explain why this is so? Daivd Tua as limited as he seemed to KO a better class as he landed his best more often...excpet when he fought good boxers.

Uzcudun was on the slide when he beat Baer.

I could go on with the rest of his opponents, but I think you get the point.

As for Jeffries, when asked who he felt would win between Baer and Carnera, he just said boy I wish those two were around in my day. Jack Johnson was asked the same question and could not stop laughing. Don't assume by posting a photo that the guy next to him had a high opinion of him. Not the case here.

PS: I see you are a new poster. You remind me a bit of a guy who was banned a while ago and was last seen April 30th 2019. I see you registered May 2nd and have been very busy since. Hmmmmm, my suggestion is try to be more translucent!

I think we have an idea of who Rainer is :). At any rate Corbett was old for the 2nd fight with Jeffries, but fit and performed very well in the first fight at age 33. Corbett's cornerman said it was his bet performance, so there you have it.

I don't know to whom you're referring, I've been at home for a month ,pending a new work situationwont be busy here for a while .
I don't know what Jeffries thought of Baer,I don't think much of him myself ,just that he is too powerful for Corbett he wouldn't beat Jeffries imo.Can you post those quotes I'd like to see them? Thanks Fella.
No hurry with them I wont be around for 2 weeks, work . I didn't get the translucent connection?
