His latest ratings for the Breazeale fight suggests his more well known that ever before but not more popular when it comes down to people paying for tickets for his fights or tuning in for his fights. Under his current business model I can't see him getting much bigger, fans are not fools he can't fight Breazeale's, Ortiz's and Kownacki's and expect the fans tune in and support him, he needs more fights like the Fury fight and he needs to show some real inclination to make the Joshua fight instead of outright ducking the fight. Fans don't give a **** about the split, about maximising revenue, about which network he's on, about all the politcal reasons he stated for not making the fight, they all come off as excuses and that's going to limit his popularity. His persona playing the villain worked for guys like Mayweather, but Mayweather also fought opponents that fans were excited to see him fight from Hatton, to Oscar, to Pac etc. He only has half the equation, he needs to resume to complete the formula and until he improves his opposition again which to be fair he did when facing Ortiz and Fury which did see him becoming more well known, he will remain at his current level of popularity.

Absolutely. HW's are what the population generally love. KO's are what the population generally love. Fighters with vulnerabilities are usually in the most exciting fights. He ticks all the boxes.
He was featured in a tiny article in my country aswell, when he said he wanted a body on his record. A week later he knocks Breazeale out in the first and nothing , zilch, zero in the press... If, at all, he gets some wider recognition, it ain't gonna be because of his boxing. And that's entirely the problem for him imo. All the other boxers mentioned here..Ali, Tyson, Mayweather, Pac, Oscar etc...all were good boxers and since it's still a sport the media take that into account for a huge part. Wilder isn't a good boxer and what's maybe worse for his popularity...not even a good showman either, just obnoxious shouting and unintelligible english
Dude, youre getting awfully high on Wilder all of a sudden, switching camps perhaps? True, Wilder did look impressive but, lets be real here, Breazeale looked in worse shape than in the AJ fight and had 0 defence throughout the whole 1 minute 30 odd seconds. If Wilder had done that to a previously unstopped opponent with fewer faults and drawbacks to his game, **** even i would be pronouncing Wilder as a future ATG and a shoe in to spark AJ in similar fashion. Wilder got rocked himself in the first minute and a more savvy and technically gifted opponent would have jumped all over Wilder and got him in real trouble. Do you think a Povetkin, Whyte or Joshua wouldnt have just pulled the trigger on him to get him out early. For me, stopping a previously undefeated opponent or someone who has never been stopped in a world title fight is what gets you to that ATG status. Wilder still has too many glaring flaws for him to continue to go undefeated into retirement. Ortizn't and Kownacki won't be the ones to do it but, someone will.
I never understood this? Is the general public just wanting simple things like a dominant fighter who is the heaviest? I think heavyweights were one of the worst inconsistent of division compared to the lower divisions where guys had to weigh in for weight. Which is why I never liked catchweights. I see why they want the day before weigh ins, yet in reality it is not fair if the guys comes in some much more than his opponent.
If he stops talking and acting like an idiotic spoilt 8 year old he might get a little bit more popular. And maybe even sell a few dozen of his new tshirts.
He fought two good boxers. One he beat, one he didn't. All that matters really is that both fights were dramatic and very entertaining.
I guess it's because the HW's are seen as the biggest and the strongest. Rarely are the HW fighters ever the most skilled in the boxing world but they're big, they thump hard and big fellas doing that seems to appeal to the simian side of the public.
If Wilder had a real promoter, his popularity would rise. If ESPN make him another offer, he should really consider it. ESPN and Top Rank could do wonders for him.
A mumble rapper would have to make a viral song that shouts him out in the hook, like "KO that ***** like Wilder, gave tha ***** molly so she got wilder," etc. Boxing ain't **** in the US and probably never will be again.
As long as the knockouts continue, it's possible. But as someone said, Wilder is copying the bad guy routine from Ali and Mayweather. Problem is, wilder has no charisma and is annoying and obnoxious. Mayweather wasn't the most charismatic either but Wilder is far worse.
