Hard to say as Sanchez died at a young age. He had 9 title defense, including wins over Gomez and Nelson. Had Sanchez lived, who knows how many more title defenses he would have had.

Comparative to their own divisions Gomez comfortably - he was in a much much weaker division historically. He's known as the top dog where as Featherweight is a totally different proposition.

P4P in their own division it gets murky. I think much of it depends on how you actually rate Gomez' quality of opposition at 122. Sanchez has some quality wins at Feather including Gomez himself and a green but determined Nelson among others.

Sanchez is so classy but Gomez is very complete and multi faceted in his early days.

Gomez was about as skilled a boxer as anyone I’ve ever seen, it just didn’t last long, and he devolved into a seek’n’destroy type (which obviously he was still brilliant at)

Did you ever see this documentary? It’s got English subtitles. My friends uncle Mario Rivera Martino is on this. He held Gomez as the greatest from Puerto Rico and he saw them all up close and followed them all.

I’ve always felt Ortiz though Tito is my favorite.

Yeah, this is a good doc - 1977-80 Gomez was the man.

Orange and black for me, but they have to be coordinated together...no singular colors for me.

    Sanchez.

126 had a higher level of overall competition than 122 When these guys reigned.

The great Puerto Rican boxers had decorated AM careers. Gomez was 96 - 3 and Trinidad was 5 x National Champ. While some of Mexico boxing greats like Cuevas turned pro at 14 , Sanchez at 16 and Chavez at 17 with little or no AM career. I would go with Sanchez as he had more gears because as Gomez ko streak increased he turned into a pure ko artist and found himself in some unnecassary wars.
