Ali who had almost 4 Years of His Prime taken from Him and in possibly the Greatest era of Heavyweight Boxing we have ever seen comparing to this era which I believe is one of the Poorest I have ever seen....the quality of the Opposition Wilder is defeating now is suspect to say the least.!!!!
As I said previously in this thread and I quote ''Wilder is an undisputed all-time great. Who was Ali? The man who fought Ernie Terrell. I rest my case''. Wilder's hands are no joke.
Nah, I think pre layoff Ali fights cautious, gets buzzed a couple times but wades the storm and gets the UD. Ali's movement in his early years was unlike anything seen in the heavyweights today by a large margin. I think Ali was a better boxer thank Fury, with a far better chin.
Thank you! I can't stand the use of that word when comparing old fighters to new. Advances in sports science, nutrition, peds for sure play a part, but not evolution, no freaking way! Demographics is also huge, a much larger population worldwide to draw from. So many intangibles but it can be fun sometimes to speculate on these fantasy fights.. Ali gets in his head before the fight even starts. Has the skills to avoid getting hit flush like DB did, throwing a slow lead hook. What kind of fighter would Ali be given all the advantages of sports science and modern PEDs of today, not the horse roids Ali had to use. 10 - 15 pounds more muscle with no impact on speed or stamina, perhaps even better stamina than he had in the day. Ali beats Wilder 9 times outta 10.
Well partly because Frazier had a great chin and partly because the worst version of Frazier was a hundred times better than the best version of Wilder! Ali would treat this lightly, not prepare as he should, box like it was an exhibition and still KO Wilder inside 3 rounds without poor Deontay landing a single blow
Interesting necro of a thread. Ali fans can take heart in the Ruiz upset that happened after the OP. Boxing fans are weird. They can't acknowledge that athletes have evolved, despite this obviously being true in *every* sport. But they've talked themselves into believing that it doesn't apply to boxing somehow. It's unhealthy. I'd favor Ali to win by decision, but he'd be facing great danger throughout the fight. People trying to turn him into some kind of early round KO killer are ridiculous. He'd fight a negative bout and maximize his movement. Keep in mind that Ali typically had a reach advantage, and sometimes a substantial one. Wilder would have a five inch reach advantage against him, although in fairness Liston had a six inch reach advantage. On the other hand, Wilder is much taller than Liston (and Ali). Ultimately, though, I think Wilder's footwork is too crude to deal with prime Ali. Ali/Usyk probably would be a more entertaining fight, albeit with far less tension.
wilder has a good shot here ali is faster and a better boxer but wilder thrives on smaller guys when he can use his physical attributes
You have been posting for 1 year and posted half the messages I have in 11 years LOL you need to get a girlfriend or something. 5k messages in 1 year all bout Dillian Whyte. While I average 1k posts a year for 11 years. Embarrassing.
Having watched most of Ali’s from the mid 70’s until the end of his career, the question is almost disrespectful. Prime Ali would have crushed Wilder and any current HW. Larry Holmes would have schooled Wilder and AJ. A young George Foreman would have toyed with any of today’s HWs as well. That was a strong era for big men in the ring. I’m admittedly biased but I wish young boxing fans could have experienced how much better HW boxing was in that era. Championship fights on free TV! Boxers fought several times a year, less ducking than today, etc. makes me sad to think about how the sport has declined since then. Yep, I sound like a geezer. Get off my lawn!
