I think Lewis definitely has a nonzero chance, but I doubt he beats prime Ali or Holmes. These would't be easy fights though. Ali and Holmes would have to put in work and stay sharp and alert the entire fight.

If may indulge briefly in a bit of pedantry, you're both kind of right. Basically, you can "prove" a negative, for all intents and purposes, if you have a strong warranted expectation that the truth of the proposition in question would produce clear evidence that would be easy to find. The absence of evidence then becomes positive evidence of falsity.

Simply put, you can't prove there's no purple penguin in the world but you can prove there isn't one in your bathroom.

Ali had issues with the best jabbers and boxers he fought. Lewis is a complete different animal, who with greater height and reach would make Ali pay for his technical flaws in ways his opponents could not.

Clinching would not work for Ali here. Neither would the rope a dope. Ali would have to out box Lewis and avoid his superior firepower to win. Lewis at times pawed with his jab but I think he'd take the decision on points once he realized that Ali couldn't in-fight, and had no left hook, he'd set his distance and box smart, slugging when he was up close.

Ali overwhelms Lewis with an onslaught similar to Brian london. Just too many missiles being launched before they start getting thru

Foot speed and speed of mind. His style would give Lewis fits. Lewis would struggle to pin him down. He could win but it's a very tough fight.

I think Lewis would be one of Ali's toughest match ups but i'd still favor him to win a decision.

Not to mention the fact he was often on his toes and taking a step back or to the side while delivering the punch. This would greatly reduce how much weight and force would go into the punch (compared to someone planting their feet, pivoting, and delivering a full force traditional power punch).

Despite frequently bouncing and moving while punching, he was still getting knockouts, causing cuts/swelling, snapping heads violently, and sending sweat and blood flying against seemingly every opponent. And its very telling that for a guy who's supppsed to lack power, no one ever just walked through his punches like they were nothing and overwhelmed him.

This too....Ali was obviously more durable as an older man and no one he met in his prime really tested his chin. Liston didn't get a chance to land cleanly.

Like I said there is such a thing as an unfalsifiable hypothesis, but in general science works by disproving or trying to disprove falsifiable hypotheses.

Or in other words just because some negatives can't be proved doesn't mean no negatives can be proved.

Ali would find a way to win. Too much speed and footwork, most of all savvy. Lewis would give him one heck of a fight if focused.
