Round 1

Markić is jabbing in on Adámek, targeting his midsection given the height differential and the Czech's habit of standing very upright with an elevated guard bottoming out at his pectorals. Markić is sallying in behind double jabs and being driven off each time by the Adámek right hand lead sent down the pipe like an ice luge. Markić is missing jabs an inch or two wide of the mark, gusts of wind blowing on Adámek's right cheek. Chopping rights by Adámek hit Markić on the shoulder as they collapse into near-clinches, but each dutifully bounds outward to reset, doing the ref the courtesy of not calling for his intervention. The matter can't be helped and near the final bell they do become locked in an inextricable clinch.

Round 2

Adámek is throwing jabs and diving in with right hands on the body of Markić. The home fighter begins to paw with a jab on the way in, then duck beneath Adámek's fists and rake at his chest. Markić times a nice counter right past a long and lazy Adámek jab and cracks him with it, the crowd growing appreciative. Markić is creeping forward, stabbing with his left foot inside Adámek's stance, threatening with inward bobs and feigning the 1-2, bent on provoking a reaction. Adámek remains stoic, boxing tall, not wavering from his rocking-chair motions and long jabs. Markić works his way in and they clinch. Markić hunts for a body shot and ends up getting backed onto the ropes, Adámek lightning him up with long straights in an extended volley while Markić lays back against the ropes in a shell.

10-9 Adámek, even closer, stole it at the very end.

Round 3

Adámek is prodding the chest of Markić with his jab, then splaying his legs for a long backward step, bringing the foreleg sliding in like a screen door blown shut on its hinge by a gentle wind. Adámek is repelling Markić's repeated straightforward advances with pendulous lefts on the flank, occasionally leaning halfway down to bury some right uppercuts on the opposite side before shoving clear and reasserting himself from a distance with the jab. Markić is walking directly into Adámek's jab, letting it force him into an unwilling retreat with Adámek's knuckles pressing into his forehead and moving him like a checker into a new square. Markić explodes with a few power shots just before the bell, the crowd loving it but not much getting through.

Round 4

Adámek is caught with a big right hand and nearly pinned in a corner just moments into the fourth. Adámek is tottering inside and out, lowering a drawbridge with the left jab, very cautious, moving to and fro depending on what Markić is doing. For his part Markic is stalking, getting low, pulling up a pace away, resetting. Markić probing for a weakness. Markić ducks a right hand to get inside and works the body. Markić is landing some nice underhanded rights on the unprotected belly of Adámek now, running in with them for added impact. Adámek is worked over against the ropes in the final ten seconds.

Not a barnburner certainly but I am enjoying this fight.

 

Round 5

Markić is now luring Adámek on a spherical chase, breaking past the corners with a pivot and waiting until Adámek spreads his arms for a 1-2 before pressing his chin to his chest and catapulting himself inside with a backhanded left and butterfly-net right hand in succession. Markić is picking off jabs and waiting patiently for a prime countering opportunity, letting Adámek outwork him but defending well. Nice dig on the body with the left hand by Markić stepping around his foe, then standing in the pocket and fencing with him, up-jab for down-jab, each twisting and shifting just enough to disrupt the other's aim.
