Jones was beyond shot by the time he fought Green. He never even looked semi-decent in the ring against a semi-decent opponent after the 3rd Tarver fight (where at least physically he looked good in intermittent spurts). I wouldn't give Green too much credit for that fight let alone call him legend because of it. Green was decent with very good power and a sturdy set of whiskers. He was a big super middlewight who basically killed himself to make weight so he could enjoy a physical advantage in the ring. This hurt him when he met Anthony Mundine who schooled him when they first met as Danny looked gaunt and unusually lethargic, though to be fair Choc was on point that night. He was carefully matched at LT Heavy/Cruiserweight in my view. He fought some past prime names (which bit him on the bum against Tarver) but padded his record with corpses like Jones and Paul Briggs and so so fighters like Stipe Drews (who fought a woeful fight) with a good record on paper. He never fought or beat Adamek either though I'm guessing you've mixed him up with Drews? In saying that his wins over BJ Flores and Shane Cameron were good solid wins where he fought well. All up he was a world class fighter without being a world beater and he could be an entertaining fighter to watch for his aggression and power. I liked him quite a bit as a fighter and a person.
I don't think he is in the class of those guys, but I liked his power and his style. Roy Jones is lucky they stopped that fight early since Danny would have stopped him more conclusively.
I remember that it was sort of the back of the head wasn't it? I should watch it again. But Green didn't hit him too clean and it hurt Roy, so I was thinking this fight is over. Green hit too hard at that point and Roy was being hit more clean.
A very well managed boxer who had alot of financial success due to positioning himself in the right fights at the right time and a boxer who was always in good shape with a pretty good jab.
That was when Roy started to look like he should retire. And then he kept on fighting being knocked out I think two more times.
A bit of both I think. Mundine had some very good handspeed and movement that Danny couldn't come to grips with (in fact a washed up Mundine still troubled Green greatly with diminished versions of these in their rematch years later). But Green undoubtedly had to torture himself to get his naturally well built 6"1 physique below 168 and it as bound to catch up to him eventually. All up I'd class it as a great win for Mundine against a still very good version of Green (though not as good as the Green who stopped Eric Lucas and gave Marcus Beyer all sorts of problems a few years earlier).
I wouldn't rate Green in the top 20 boxers from Australia. Nor would I rate him in the top 100 boxers of his own era. In an all time category he simply does not rate at all.
robbed vs Marcus Beyer. Should of had a world title. Also On 1 October 2006, Green rescued a drowning man at Yallingup beach.[64] A keen surfer, "Green battled huge waves" to reach the man before paddling him back to shore.[65] Upon recovery, the rescued man was reported to have said "This a story to tell the boys at the next party, getting rescued by Danny Green."[65] In 2011 the Australian Government awarded Green a Commendation for Brave Conduct, citing "Mid morning on 1 October 2006, Mr. Green rescued a man caught in a rip at Yallingup beach."[64] legend.
