Did Oleksandr Usyk prove he is a more powerful puncher than Tony Bellew?

Bellew was a very average British level fighter who somehow got made out to some kind of "great" fighter by Sky and Eddie the sneering, snivelling creep.

I don't even want to go into how badly David Haye was over the hill for his 2 fights with Bellew, basically he deserves no credit for those "wins". It would have been a bigger "achievement" if he KO'd his own grandmother.

Anyway, Usyk schooled him from the get go. Usyk dominated and made his miss, made him pay. Yet, the Sky commentators were sounding like Bellew was putting on a show or something deluded like that. I had a big smile when Usyk delivered that masterful KO that had been coming since the 1st bell.


Usyk's "power" comes from his shot -placement, timing and positioning.

 

Nothing of their power was ever proved. Usyk proved he's much more durable with a much better skillset

 

Usyk is the kind of fighter where you really don't know what his power is like, and it's not relevant - a lot of his "thing" is his shot selection and general wise use of his power. For the most part he doesn't sit on his shots, so he's only using enough energy to make the pace work for him and ensure he is scoring - will gradually wear his opponent down mentally and physically while ensuring he hasn't dipped as much into his own energy stores.

It's kindof a beautiful and scary thing, whether you are cheering for his side or not as you don't know whether he is struggling or whether he is "waiting". When he can tell his opponent is starting to feel the pace he will start leaning into his shots a bit more and generally increasing his effort, between usually being fresher due to more efficient use of energy in the earlier rounds the combination of speed, shot accuracy and "enough" power often overcome a fighter that if he had gone full effort in the first couple of rounds he may not have done much damage but now could result in a stoppage. Basically the "KO" has been a work in progress from the first round, and hasn't happened so much from sheer power so much as just breaking the foundations down

 

No I don't think so! From what I remember I don't really think Bellew landed his hardest shot on Usyk, he was being tricky and hitting Usyk with jabs and normal power shots. Plus Bellew was absolutely knackered tired when Usyk Ko'd him. It would be hard to land a clean power shot on Usyk, like your biggest punch cause he's so skillfull.

 

Uysk is clever and rarely hits an opponent with his best shot until he's ready to go. That suggests he's not the biggest of punchers who can put lights out whenever he wishes, but hits hard enough when needed. The switch-up probably compounds the effect of the punch because opponents have felt a certain level of power to which they have adjusted and then... boom... they get hit much harder. He has decent power but, more than that, he uses that power wisely...

 

Usyk definitely proved he’s not this feather duster puncher that some goons like to claim he is. And Bellew wasn’t that tired either when he got starched. No Tony wasn’t fresh... but GTFOH with making it sound like he was on his last legs out of gas. Lol

Usyk actually never took Bellew’s best punch, which is his left hook. Usyk took quite a few right hands, but made sure not to let Bellew land his left hook. After the 5th round Bellew was gassed out and got knocked out. Also, Bellew has never been known for his chin, so I wouldn’t read too much into Usyk knocking him out.
