I think the Ortiz age thing is a myth. He is 40. Yeah he looks older but loads of people do. Gorman looks 35.
I would put him about 48-49, bud. Incredible that he fights to such a high quality level at that age.
If they hadn't fought before, this fight would make sense to me. I take twenty's point about Wilder continuing to build his profile. The problem is we've already seen this fight and it had a conclusive outcome. Again, it would make sense if Ortiz was young and put in several stunning performances since they first fought. He hasn't and he's only getting older and slower. The KO will come in the first six rounds this time. A waste of time and a waste of prime for Deontay Wilder.
Agree with a lot of this, but I don't see how anything makes sense for Joshua or Wilder at this stage other than each other. I think the idea of Wilder 'building his profile' is a myth. He's been a world champion for years, he's had his big PPV debut against Fury, he's had his back and forth thriller against Ortiz, he's had his one round blowout against Breazeale, he's had his slight outsider Vegas title fight against Stiverne. What else can he do that's not just going to be a rehash of what has already happened? (Literally in the Ortiz case.) Is a fight against Kownacki really going to propel him into the stratosphere? The answer is plainly no, and the answer for what really would increase his profile enormously would be fighting and beating Joshua. Honestly, it's the most blatant duck I can think of.
No one wants to see this shite Ortiz is getting worse with every fight. He's a grandad FFS. So wilder knocks him out again, then what. No one cares about wilder knocking bum after bum out. We've seen it for years it's getting boring. Just hurry up and fight AJ or Whyte and get sparked out and save the division from this belt hugging phony.
I wonder if Wilder forgot he was a punch away from being knocked out, i have panned this fight all day but in reality Ortiz nearly won.
Wilder is following the template set by Adonis Stevenson by holding the WBC belt hostage, for as long as he can. The colour in his nickname is most appropriate, lagging behind the two Brits, without going for the gold.
I wonder if Ortiz has been living inside his head rent free since that fight which only got worse when Fury did him too. Wilder was completely gone in round 7 and most of round 8, I think the fight would have been stopped had it been in the UK but he got helped through it by the doctor etc. Maybe Wilder wants the conclusive finish without going life and death this time. Just guessing all this of course.
Wilder is banking on ortiz being finished, I would actually **** my pants laughing if he gets knocked out but I think this will be easier than the first fight unfortunately.
Ortiz is old, his stamina is poor but he has a better boxing brain than Wilder. If fight goes late Ortiz will be knocked out, so I think he should empty his tank from the off and put it on Wilder whilst he is fresh and got te energy to finish Wilder off if he gets him hurt badly again.
Prime Ortiz would have ktfo Wilder . I'm sure of that. His skills are so much superior to Wilder it's not funny and he does have decent power. But Ortiz is now clearly in his late forties if not older. He has little stamina and is slowing down at an alarming rate to Dave Allen speed. Another case of Windmill taking the safe route.
Ortiz seen taking a sly dose of viagra post fight in the shower by Adam Smith - he confirmed that his erectile dysfunction started at 51.
Fighting an old man that you've already beaten, 18 months earlier, that's poor, especially when you see how quickly Ortiz is fading now. I have said along, Whyte should have taken the Ortiz fight, got him out of the equation, made a statement, instead he's behind a load of fried chicken eating, or ageing, tubs of s**t, not to mention the other two big players in the division, Fury and Joshua. Only Joshua s putting himself in with decent enough opponents, each fight, these days, you can't argue with who he has been fighting, even Miller was more of a big deal than some of the opponents that Wilder and Fury have been 'picking'.
