It's a 4-rounder at junior middleweight and very early in Kelly's career. Pavlik goes almost down in the 2 nd round, but the ropes hold him up....he receives a standing 8 -count... he is visibly hurt and goes on his bicycle for the remainder of the round.Bedburbick has a huge stamina problem and comes out for the 3d literally spend. The ref intervenes after a barrage of punches in the 3d,Bedburbick is still standing. Pavlik proves here again he can be hurt but not counted out,Taylor,Zuniga and now Bedburbick. That's the 3d time i see him visibly shaken and come back to knock the other guy out. How do you rate his chin?
Pavlik will lose a few times in the coming years presuming he faces the Abrahams, Kesslers, Butes, of this world. His chin isn't great. Not bad, but not great.
From scale of 1-10, i would say maybe an 8. The thing about Pavlik is that he's always putting his chin out there because he's always coming forward and throwing so he's more prone to get hit with clean shots when compared to a guy like Cory Spinks. Pavlik is willing to take some shots to get in his.
It's hardly an 8, when you've been rocked a couple of times by C levels and once by a champion who isn't known for his explosive power I mean 8 out of 10 would be a very solid chin, only hurt by top level punchers and fighters
he has a great chin. He can definately take a good shot. His balance is not very good though. I didn't see the knockdown you're talking about, but he took both the Zuniga and Taylor shots extremely well. Went down but wasn't really hurt. Kind of like Calzaghe The thing with Pavlik is that he will take a huge shot sometimes and lose his balance but he always remains clear-headed, which imo is a sign of an extremely solid chin He was up by 1 or 2 in both the Zuniga and Taylor knockdowns. Actually he seemed in control of his senses even as he was falling to the canvas. This content is protected
he was stumbling around when he tried to clinch after for sure and thats because Taylor hit him with another punch while coming in. Mentally he looked in control of his senses. I mean look at his expression when he goes down and when Smoger is giving him the standing 8 count, very clear headed and strong on his feet. IMO this guy can take a punch. Like i said its more his balance that is a problem [yt]G0YCdjomoqQ[/yt] and btw i think Kessler would beat Pavlik, but Pavlik's chin is rock solid
I saw this fight last week. Real early in his career being only 18. But to be fair, that left hand caught him on the temple and he never saw it coming.
flash knockdowns mean nothing bar losing a round by 2 points. as long as fighters get straight up /legs under them , nothing wrong with there chins. i saw pavlik walk onto a huge miranda right hand , which he never saw coming and while he was a little wobbled he shook it off and 3 secs later came back firing . all earlier fights when you are maturing are just learning fights. does not really matter what happened as long as you learn and improve. 25 years ago hardly a fighter never had a loss before getting a world title shot. 25 years later virtuially all prospects are undefeated before getting there title shots. tells you a lot about over cautious matchmaking then and now.
I think Pavlik does have a good Chin. The real problem is that he has non existant head movement which means he doesent avoid and slip shots as perhaps he could . I do Think he does take a good shot .Getting hurt is part of Boxing .Remember Oscar dela hoya getting decked early in his career on a few occasions as a super feather /lightweight yet Oscars chin later held up quite well at least three divisions higher true different style to PAV but still same with Trinidad as well .
