His straights were very fast, at best Holmes is equal, but Wlad has longer reach and his punches were near perfect straight lines. That makes his blows get there first.

I have watched them both, Wlad is his superior. Holmes was a good champion. Wlad was just better.

This. People forget that it’s timing and not reach, which makes a great jab. Qawi outjabbed nearly everybody he fought despite often having the shorter reach.

Larry gets up from a Shavers nuclear punch Wlad chicken dances from a flaccid ***** turkey slap, Larry adapts Klit is a machine quickly the jab and grab will be nullified by a superior jab and his cuddle tactics may lose him points here he's getting outfoxed in the chess match then he's hugging on impulse to save his chin
Klit has biological markings of a superior physical specimen but he wont outlast Larry nor will he outpoint him and if he wants to stand in the trenches he'll be felled by the greater man.

Good video on how Wlad uses his Jab, he keeps it out there to keep you on the end of his punches, and it lands so fast because it is already halfway there.
It may be ugly looking but it is effective, many tall greats do the same thing.

Not by my eye it doesn't. Holmes looks visibly quicker and snappier to me

Holmes was incredibly fast and athletic. Wlad was incredibly mechanical and looked like a robot.

    Both worked.

But then he also got outjabbed by Spinks who had a longer reach. I think reach does play a small role when it comes to jabbing. Two fighters can have a similar sense of timing and distance. One of them might end up outjabbing the other by having a faster jab or a counter-jab or due to a reach advantage. Norton-Ali would be a good example of counter-jabbing. Holmes-Witherspoon as well. Ali outjabbed Liston by a mile because he was so much faster. And his movement played a role too. Mercer outjabbed Lewis because he was more committed to jabbing on that night. Bowe outjabbed Holyfield, not because he had a better jab, but because he had a reach advantage. Tyson outjabbed Tucker with superior timing. Pinklon outjabbed Witherspoon because he had a better jab. So you are right in saying that timing is the most important thing when it comes to jab. But if both fighters have a good sense of timing- reach, versatility, speed, and volume will play a role. Timing isn't always something you walk into the ring with. Holmes didn't always come into a fight with incredible timing. Sometimes it took him a while to find his range. It's difficult to say who has better timing between Wlad and Holmes. Both were highly accurate with their jab. The only real way of knowing is if the two stepped in the ring. Holmes jab was definitely faster. That jab is second only to Ali, in terms of speed. Wlad's jab was more powerful. Both had excellent timing imo. And just to be clear, both Wlad and Holmes have an identical reach: 81".

I just looked up the reach of both Holmes and Wlad. Surprisingly their reach is similar at 81 inches.

This does not help with my original assertions. Holmes may have an advantage. He still has to overcome the height disparity, but it becomes much more equal. I may have to reconsider .

I still think Wlad wins, but it is much closer.

We must have been looking reach up about the same time. Kudos

Your post is great. I think Wlad might edge him with timing.

While Holmes could be hurt at times there is really no comparison between the two. Holmes is one of the greatest fighters ever. While danger would lurk, and it always did he would school Kitchco. Would go into later rds, but an a==kicking awiats klitchco

And the church will say Amen! Holmes would school both Kleichkos convincingly.
