I don't think that was the American debut AJ or anyone else was expecting

The pressure got to him, plus I believe he knew he'd always lose to Wilder or hell even Fury could hurt him. People don't act well when the end of the rainbow isn't looking good for them. Plus I have been told he was out partying last night according to a tweet, that's not an excuse nor something I can or would want to confirm but that wouldn't have surprised me.

Another factor, it's tough to make consecutive heavyweight championship defenses. A bad night can be disastrous as we just saw.

Don’t be shocked buddy each one of the big three have flaws that can be exploited by the right style.. I wasn’t willing to bet he would win but I was sure Ruiz’s style would give AJ trouble after I saw the Povetkin fight.. AJs main advantage over Pov was size, speed and youth and Povetkin’s hooks found AJs chin from time to time.. Against Ruiz AJs only advantage was his size Ruiz was younger and faster and the hand speed difference really affected AJ as he never was able to time Ruiz

pedvetkin wasn't just landing from time to time, he was landing at will on AJ's head. AJ adjusted and started shooting a straight right hand after the jab from distance, where in the **** was that in this fight? new trainer time, all wrong gameplan.

He adjusted easily against Povetkin because at 40 his stamina was shot the same and his hand speed was no where near as fast as Ruiz.. AJ did not expect Ruiz to be that fast and aggressive which is why adjustment was so hard to achieve.. A lot of people like to mention how Lennox and Wladimir bounced back but both guys switched to Emanuel Steward whose no longer with us today..

AJ's weakness was ALWAYS shorter guys.

He STILL should have won after he got the Ruiz knockdown but ?

People are delusional if they still think wilder and AJ aren't the guys to beat off this fight where AJ was in to relaxed state.

The rematch wont reflect this fight at all.

The question is will wilder NOW fight AJ thinking like a newb ? Lets hope so.

Wilder trolling hard on social media so lets hope that clown gets by Ortiz bc theres a thing called Karma and it happens a lot in boxing,

@DeontayWilder you lost to Fury at fight 40 who wasnt a threat as Ruiz was last night out of top level competition for 3 years .....so shut yo mouth.... lol

I'm shocked too. Can I ask a question, wtf has happened to Joshua's progression?

Maybe he has fell in love with his power and thinks anytime he lands flush, then it's game over. It was a flash knockdown for me and Ruiz was no where near ready for being stopped.

When AJ was coming up. He kept it basic. Worked behind the jab and right cross. Last night and in the Povetkin fight he looked like he was in 2nd gear. Almost like it was inevitable that he would land a big shot. For me you have to make that opportunity happen. Ruiz isn't going to put it on a plate and we saw in the Parker fight, a guy Joshua also went the distance with, that Ruiz is not an easy opponent.

Joshua wins the rematch but his stock has dropped imo. Wilder and Fury will definitely see him as beatable.

Ruiz has much more room for improvement than Aj. He could conceivably lose 30lbs and gain speed, endurance and possibly power. Recovering psychologically after being dominated is much less likely.

I am mostly shocked at how badly AJ got beat, no one ever would have predicted that.

Not one person in the universe would have imagined AJ being dominated the way he did.

But he made too many mistakes, and he was used to doing what worked for him previously... in getting sloppy on exchanges againsy fighters who don't throw back as offen, as fast, as accurately, and as fast as Ruiz was last night. That is the blueprint to beat AJ.

AJ really should have kept Ruiz at range after those first two knockdowns, but it's not really his style, and his Jab work is below average.

It was his plan to come in at 268, looks like it paid off... who are we to say that coming in heavy isnt the sweet spot for Ruiz??

Ruiz had no trouble whatsoever yesterday with his weight... didn't slow him down one bit, maybe made his punches harder than usual..

You'll never convince me that Ruiz was fighting at his optimum weight despite the results. Carrying extra dead weight in the form of fat increases your muscles' workload, causing an elevated heart rate whenever you do physical activity. Fat is storage fuel, and as such, it adds to the workload of your muscles, which must carry its weight. When muscle work increases, your heart rate increases to supply oxygenated blood to muscle tissue.

agree with a lot of that, let’s be fair though I think everyone knows Joshua was beatable. Look how hurt he was in the klitschko fight, last night hasn’t changed much for me. I still think it’s a 50/50 with wilder and hopefully AJ can come back and we’ll see that fight happen!

You made many contradictions in that post, you might want to rewrite it and make it clearer. Besides, Ruiz isn't the only overweight fighter who has had plenty of success in combat sports, who when they lost some weight, lost a bit of power too.

You shouldn't argue with scientific facts regarding obesity. Had Ruiz been at his self-proclaimed optimum fighting weight of 240 the results would have been more impressive. Nonsensical to presume Ruiz's 'plan' was to come in at a weight that contradicts his previous statement that his most effective weight is 240.
