Fury broke Klitschko mentally he couldn't gear near him and he hadn't experienced anything like that for years, Joshua Klitschko knew he could win an acted so bar pressing the button when he should've

-first fight outside of UKAD territory
-first fight where the ref was neutral. he got slapped when he punched after the break and the ref didn't fall for the spit out the mouthpiece trick.
-He needs to drop weight but the negatives are:
    (1) how will his body deal with dropping muscle that's been there for years.
    (2) he'll lose his main strength, which is his power
    (3) his punch resistance might drop further without the extra weight to steady him
    (4) he might still have bad stamina, as it could be a genetic thing like big pricey.

What do you mean "much more up for it" ?? Wlad was always up for his fights. Always in great shape and mentally prepared.
He hated Fury and wanted to smash his head in !

He looked better against AJ because AJ is nowhere near as good a boxer as Fury.
Wlad wasn't actually better. He was worse. You don't get beat so clearly at 39, stay out the ring 17 months and come back better at 41 than you were before ! It just doesn't happen.

They are decent heavyweights. Nothing more, nothing less.
This isn't a great resume. Nor is it clearly better than Fury's resume at this stage.

    Just rewatched the fight.

AJ fought so naively it was unreal, completely underestimated him and treated him with no respect even when he was put down repeatedly.

Up until knocking Ruiz down he was in control and winning the fight. The combination he put Ruiz down with was beautiful but didn’t see him use the uppercut again after that...

Following that he decided to get into a slug fest with a guy who had faster hands, trading hooks and missing so wildly he was rotating himself onto Ruiz’s hooks.

Then finally regains his composure after a couple of rounds, lands one big shot and gets caught again when loading up trying to take Ruiz out.

Showed a complete lack of respect for Ruiz chin and durability, and also the fact he had the faster hands. You could see he was trying to show he was better than Ruiz in every way rather than respecting his strengths. It was unprofessional and poor. The preparation wasn’t ideal given the pull out but that’s no excuse for the way he fought.

AJ boxes smarter in the rematch and shows him more respect. AJ late TKO by systematically picking Ruiz apart and gradually wearing him down. Exactly as he could and should have at MSG. Just needed to be patient and not rush in, Ruiz is tough. He wanted to make a statement but he forgot the most important thing was to win.

AJ still has the ability he just fought like an idiot. That said Fury still beats him and I’d back Wilder to catch him at some point as well (though I thought that before this fight).

Wlad got mentally beat before the fight started and was very gun-shy when he fought Wlad! What fight did you watch?

True about the skill level between AJ & Fury, but Wlad fought AJ like he had nothing to lose.

He was worse? Are you actually mental?

I find it a very strange fight all in all, can make head no tail of it really.

I definitely didn't consider Ruiz to be a 'fat bum' - I respected his handspeed and chin but quite frankly I thought he would struggle to get inside and even if he did he wouldn't have the power. I agree with the original poster who said he is a 'natural fighter'.

With regards to AJ, its all very strange. He's obviously too big and I can't remember any boxer having that type of condition and being able to last 12 rounds at a pace.

Might be a wake up call for AJ , he showed a few sloppy signs in Povetkin fight but those get forgotten when you win. Technically Joshua was pretty poor last night and made fundamental mistakes ones which should not be made for so called elite boxers. I think it’s a hard road back for him.
