Since his flooring vs Wlad he’s been a completely different fighter. He’s evolved (now I’m typing it seems to be the wrong word) to be a lot more cautious and it’s to his detriment. When he first came on the scene he was explosive and devastating. That side is probably still there but with caution prevailing over it. If he’s gona have any more success he needs to just try and blast people out of there as quickly as possible, go back to square one and use that power.

Yep he needs to turn into a more exciting all action fighter again and knock people out before they have a chance to do that to him.

The mad thing is, he put Ruiz down and only got caught because he was being explosive and devastating and thus neglecting his own chin. I think he’s (rightfully) recognised from the Klitschko fight that if someone lands that big shot in the heavyweights, you’re going down, so he’s tried to protect his own chin more and work behind the jab to break his opponents down. It’s the right tactics imo.

Because he isn't fighting complete bums lol.

That said I think he isn't putting as much work in.

His physique was much better from 13-16. Putting on too much weight.

Exactly - slugging gung ho with a guy who has faster hands...dumb...with more patience he’d have broken Ruiz down and stopped him. Was just determined to make a statement and showed Ruiz zero respect. Missed so wildly that he turned himself onto that hook to the temple from Ruiz making it even worse...

If you swing for the fences like that there’s always a chance you’ll get caught by a big shot yourself, he played right into Ruiz’s hands.

Totally agree. The old boxing cliche, don’t hook with a hooker. Joshua timed him beautifully with that shot that put Ruiz down, just needed to be patient and do it again cos it looked like job done at that point.

His power isn't there at the top level

Takam took his best shots, ref had to do a British stoppage
Parker went 12 was never hurt once
Ruiz took plenty of punches but his chin held up

The Takam fiht was weird and he had a broken nose from a 'clash' of heads early on.

Yes and no with Parker, the ref ruined any opportunity of a KO happening.

He had an off night against Ruiz jnr and completely underestimated his threat too, it happens, especially in heavyweight boxing.

Ask Povetkin if his power isn't there at the top level though.

Really? It was a great fight and great performance but I certainly didn’t see it like that after he won. The general consensus was that Klitschko at the time was a shadow of his former self. A dismal win over Jennings where he barely threw a right hand. Completely outclassed by Fury and battered in a fight where he could barely land a glove.

Don’t forget that Wlad let AJ off the hook because he was so terrified of getting hurt.

It was a good win over a shot former legend.

    Disagree.

That night he looked like a young, hungry fighter looking to do whatever it took to win the biggest fight of his life, and he was prepared to do anything to do it - even if i meant fighting out his comfort zone and taking shots and turning it into a bit tear-up against a faded former champ that he knew was vulnerable down the stretch at that point.

He got put down and was rocked when he was fighting at his 'default' pace and rhythm. It was only when he went off-piste and went for it that he managed not put Vlad away. In his recent fight he's gone back to being methodical and he simpy doesn't have the hunger or will to dig that deep again.

Klitschko looked better against AJ than he did against Fury because AJ isn't anywhere near as good as Fury. It really is as simple as that.

According to the BBC, during fight week, Joshua told Carl Frampton that after beating Wladimir Klitschko in a topsy-turvy 2017 bout, he had informed trainer Rob McCracken he would "give up" if he needed to be in fights which played out like a rollercoaster again.

    First Pride, then the FALL.

AJ went from a likeable kid to a big headed vain indestructible. In Britain he has had no end of interviews build up, Support and even TV appearance and Shows, his personality changed gradually, but visible.

and like so many people in the Public Eye, the persona changed and especially noticeable to people who don't like that kind of thing and cringe and worry for the person when they see it happening.

Shame, but it'll either smarten him up or harden him even worse.
