I cannot understand why so many consider Sam Peter such a big puncher? All of his big fights ended in decisions. I am sure he can hit and he is obviously very strong physically, but I have not been impressed to the level of some of you! Maskaev has been KOed, but he has also faced good competition since early in his career and has only been KOed a few times. This includes a young David Tua who Oleg was having a close fight with until he got caught with a big punch late in the fight! Sam Peter has not shown me he is in the same company as a young David Tua (not yet!). This could be an interesting fight. Oleg is the better boxer with more experience and he can bang pretty good too! Sam Peter showed improvement when he fought Toney the 2nd time, but he lacks hand speed which will make it hard for him to land at will on Oleg. Peter is also easy to hit and Oleg can hit just as hard as Peter can in my opinion....

It drives me crazy that so many think it's a foregone conclusion that Peter will win this fight, and easily. I'm not counting Peter out, but outside of Wlad, Oleg will be his toughest opponent to date. The Big O is going to give Peter a fight, and will IMO, win a UD. Of course, Peter still has a puncher's chance, but I'm afraid that after the Toney fights that he may fancy himself a boxer and try to match skills with Maskaev rather than try to KO him.

i hear you but peter wins 8/10 times for me. he's got the tools to do what rahman, okhello, sam couldn't do and the skills to do what mccall, tua, johnson, whitaker and saunders did do

I actually think that the outcome of this fight will largely depend on Peter's condition. If he show up in obese shape, I would give Maskaev a good chance to outbox him.

Maskaev throws a good straight right, don't rate Peter much except for power which he seems to land on the back of the head most of the time.

Good to hear that promising news. Let's hope this thing don't get derailed, again, after so many false starts.

    Go Maskaev! :good

Just make sure you duck when you see Peter starting to wind up.

Maskaev has a shot here. Not a good shot, but if he can win the battle of the jabs and comes with a well-conditioned body, he can pull this one off. However, I think Peter will break him down and stop him in the middle rounds.
