Probably the same deal Whyte got for rematch so AJ still calls the shots

 

He's not really the A side though is he? It was a great win and an absolutely monumental upset, but it doesn't suddenly make him anything more than Buster Douglas was after he beat Tyson. It just changes the narrative.

AJ was battered midway through round 3 until the stoppage. AJ stopped throwing punches for most of it and just tried to recover. Ruiz scored two knockdowns in round 3 as well. No way could anyone have AJ ahead.

 

To beat a Matchroom fighter you have to KO them.
A simple one sided beating that then goes to the judges cards will not be enough.
If AJ had survived and hung on till the end he would have been given the win.

 

Having watched it 3 times like some saddo, that fight should have been waved off in the 3rd imo. Joshua was completely done & was taking an accumulation of shots to put him down a 2nd time. I’m convinced the ref jumps in if the roles were reversed.

 

He’s got the belts. He can choose his own path now. He’s not obligated to fight Joshua. That makes him the A-side and other fighters have to jump through whatever hoops his management decide.

 

Wouldn't dispute that. Literally saved by the bell. I thought Ruiz lost his opportunity and AJ would recover. Mad how AJ just couldn't recover. Had over three rounds to do it.

 

Doesn’t matter where they fight, result will be the same anyway. Joshua is just another David Price, except he got had huge hype after he was gifted a title.

Whyte should have finished him, Klitschko should have if he wasn’t so gassed himself, Parker and Takam both didn’t throw enough when he gassed against them. Ruiz was the first one just to have a go and pile the pressure on. Anyone who survives the first 2-4 rounds has a great chance if they are prepared to throw punches

 

Just watched it 4 times now haha. Found a link with no commentary but HD. After the second knockdown the ref is calling him over and he’s not following his instructions, he should have been pulled out there and then. He got the benefit of the doubt imo.

In regards to scoring, I had Ruiz a few points ahead by round 7, I don’t get them scorecards. Ruiz was stalking him intelligently, showing ring generalship and effective aggression. Joshua was pawing the jab out, it lacked authority. He just couldn’t handle his hand speed.

 

The fast hands on the counter were to much for AJ.

Nobody has mentioned the 3 body punches Ruiz landed in the 6th round. You could tell AJ was done at the end of that round and it was those shots that took everything out of him
