Yeah, I'd put him a bit further back from Patterson, but still definitely comparable. Before he got blown out by Ruiz, I think he was within a couple spots of Patterson on the HW ATG list.

If Joshua retired tomorrow I'd have him as a top 25 HW

I have him a bit lower because of the nature of the blowout loss to Ruiz, but in that realm. Good for you for not overreacting like most posters are doing; he's clearly achieved much more in his career than titlists like Haye and Bruno.

He's nowhere near top 25 for me.

His best wins are Wlad, old 41 year man, who he struggled with.
...... and Parker, a dull win with the worst referee.
He was smashed by Ruiz Jr.

    This is mediocre stuff.

It is easy to get swept up in the moment after a solid champ loses unexepectedly.

Joshua reigned for three straight years at heavyweight and won three belts (regardless of who he defeated).

At heavyweight, that's a solid run. If it was easy, most heavyweight champions in history would accomplish more than that. Most haven't.

In my opinion, his reign has been better than many who won a belt, lost it in their next fight, and won another belt later and lost it again right away.

His first belt and his first 3 title fights are some of the most fraudulent in heavyweight history.
Martin, Breazeale and Molina for the IBF was a sad joke, an insult.
Worse than most the early WBO reigns.
Very few titlists in history have been gifted such a trio of nobodies billed a 'world title' fights.

Wlad was lineal. He cleaned out the division & established a new lineage.

Everyone recognised him as the legitimate champ.

Joshua won 3 belts but look at who he beat to get those belts.

IBF ..... Charles Martin, a joke of a champion.

WBA ..... the dethroned Wladimir Klitschko, coming off a clear loss, 41 year old, hadn't won a fight in 2 years.

WBO .... Joseph Parker, a decent fighter but purely an alphabet champ. A dull win with dubious refereeing.

No one has been set up to unify 3 belts with such favourable circumstances.

The men he fought in title fights ranged from very good to poor. We all know that. But that's not out of the ordinary. Buster Mathis, Dave Zyglewicz, Terry Daniels, Ron Stander and Manuel Ramos certainly weren't a murderer's row, either.

Joshua fought better opponents than Eric Molina and Charles Martin, too.

If you feel the bad outweighed the good during his reign, fine. That's certainly valid. When compared to all the guys who have held titles in the last 60 years or so, from the Patterson/Johansson era onward, and how some of those titlists' reigns began and ended, I think Joshua was a very good champ.

I don't regard him as an ATG.

He's of the alphabet Joshua ilk.

I think he was a middling champ at best.
He might still yet become a good or great one though.
