at his height, he should be mastering his jab like Klitschko.... Joshua was probably throwing 5-6 jabs per round, and allowing Ruiz to get close to him and hurt him.... Klitschko was throwing 40-50 jabs per round, never letting his opponent get near him... Joshua needs to go back to camp and practice his jab without getting gassed... he will be allright if he had a jab.
you have to wonder how social media effects these guys?I was one of em who was saying Joshua needed a knockout to look good in America instead of playing it safe. He does have a jab, just didn't use it imo.
This. He does too much cross training and not enough boxing training. It would be nice if Bruno or Lewis could work with him, since they both had very good jabs.
Joshua has some skills, but once he gets hit he looks like Frank Bruno. If Wlad wasn't 50 years old he would mow down AJ in 5. The big problem that Hearns himself started to believe that AJ is good.
He does have a jab he just doesn't know how to utilize it. He was trying to replicate Wladimir's jab style throughout the rounds, the problem is he doesn't have the intelligence or discipline to effectively maintain the discipline the same way Wlad used it. Many tall boxers have tried and failed trying to copy Wlad's jab failing to account for the fact that you need great discipline and Wlad was unique in that his jab was just as effective as a right hook power punch due to his great technique and discipline.
and control of distance. at times joshua just put his head there for ruiz to hit hahahahahaha one thing wlad NEVER let you do was get close enough and if you did you got octopussed.
His jab is fine, he just abandoned it that night. Makes you appreciate how good Wlad was to control opponents the way he did, for nigh on ten years.
He noticeably started jabbing from the hip against Povetkin and then again against Ruiz. When your that fragile to shots about your nut, you’ve got to fire it like a piston from your jaw. I wonder if Freddie Roach might be getting another request?
exactly! thats how Klitschko's jab got so lethal, it's because his glass chin was exposed... Joshua will have no choice but to perfect his jab. and that jab from the hip, AKA arm jab that was done really well by Vitali... towards the end of his career (last 6-7 fights) he pretty much never held his left hand up at guard, it was almost 100% at his hip.... it worked for Vitali, but Joshua just isn't that good yet, with is reflexes, timing and speed.
