So if someone says "Yes I want to continue"

You translate that as, "I refuse to continue"

I have a translation job for you in the city, send me your cv.

It seemed more like “do you want to continue?”

“Yeah just give me a few seconds to catch my breath.”

"Give me twenty seconds to catch my breath. As I am twice the size of my opponent I deserve twice the count time."

    AJ to ref.

Not a peep of protest? But he did protest? Verbally and with his whole body.

Refused to continue? But he verbally accepted.

He was a guy who was put down four times, and got up four times, he ain't gonna be supremely confident at this stage. Given the situation, he still didn't quit.... but the stoppage was correct because he wasn't making any progress.

You are making things up completely, when video evidence contradicts all you are saying.

I don't know if he was still able to fight. He was standing up, but he was eight miles high (as the Byrds would say). So no, I don't think he quit. He was on his feet, but he hardly knew where he was imo.

Not a peep of protest stating to the ref that he was unfairly stopped - read please. Sheet Judah punched a ref for legit stopping him. :nonono

You the only poster pushing this "He didn't quit" all over the forum. Everyone in the industry knows the signs, knows the nuances and knows what to do in that situation. It's drilled into you in any good gym.

I can respect AJ for not throwing the ref or his corner under the bus - what's bad is those that cannot except their idol made the decision. Seen it first hand twice and both times it was firkin relatives who were spouting this type off spin.

Regardless of what he said verbally, his body language was saying something else. If he really wanted to continue, he should have walked forward with his gloves up, not remained slouched on the ropes.

AJ just stood there as if the ref was gonna let him smoke a cigarette before resuming the fight

Ridiculous. Saying that, doesn't make it true.

Your wrong. Footage doesn't lie and the clock tells the story.

He let the ref make the decision. Seen this trick before from other fighters - either the ref or the corner men become the "bad guy" for making the call. I give AJ credit though that he has not done that, he taken responsibility for his actions which forced others to put him out of his misery. Appears others cannot accept that.

No worries, thank you for clearing that up for me. AJ should have punched the referee, to make it obvious that he wasn't happy in being waived off.

Cheers, I'll spread the word to future fighters, so as not to leave any room for doubt with Boxingforum24 posters.

he clearly did protest to the ref. I dont know how you cannot see him shake his head incredulously when the ref waves his arms.

But he didnt protest for long.

He did protest, but he didn't push too hard because he knows that he was down four times, which is already more than most referee are willing to forgive, and he knows that Ruiz Jr was simply the winner... but AJ would have kept trying if no one stopped him. That's who he is, that being said, perfect stoppage. It is clear he wasn't making progress.

    But he did not quit.
