You forgot to mention the part where he spat his gum shield out and turned his back on the ref to walk back to the corner to lean against the ropes I guess George Groves, Teddy Atlas, Dave Allen are basement dwellers who would get knocked out by a jab because they said and believed he quit.
Martinez took that fight with one leg for the money. Completely different story. Prime Martinez takes him out inside 10.
Agree that healthy Martinez beats cotto but what physical or mental issue did Joshua have going in against Ruiz? The possibility of an issue prior to the fight, the temple shots and his not being able to recover is what draws the comparison in my mind.
Occasion? he regularly fought in front of 90K. I commented on the night that the atmosphere sounded sh*t. If he was fighting Wilder or Fury then yes the occasion may have got to him, but fighting Ruiz in front of some B list celebrities is hardly a claim for nerves.
it was his US debut and he needed to impress, he was also out of his comfort zone. I think it spooked him personally. Its no excuse though, and I believe Ruiz has the skill set to beat AJ again unless he does something miraculous. I'm just trying to see reasons why AJ didn't seem to be with it on this one.
Yeah ok, like we have never seen a fighter spit out his mouth piece or walk away in an attempt to buy time to recover. What was Joshua's response when the ref asked him if he wanted to continue? I could care less about the stoppage or Joshua but the member that made the post regarding the critics on this site was speaking the truth when he states that the majority wouldn't be able to handle a jab let alone the shot that Joshua took in the third round. As we all know, these guys risk their lives each and every time they enter the ring, so for a few nobodies to make a claim that a fighter is a quitter after doing their best and getting off the floor 4 times Is just plain ignorant.
Oh right so the idea of public opinion and the purpose of a forum to to express ones view should be forbidden because most of us would likely be knocked out by a professional boxer What weak asinine logic. Professional pundits shouldn't criticism because they've never been in the ring? Where you critical of Eddie Hearn when he is criticizing other fighters and calling them keyboard warriors? Obviously you don't understand boxing otherwise you wouldn't be arguing that he didn't quit because he said yes. Do you think Referees are taught to ignore observing body langauge and actions in favor of only listening to words, when it comes to assessing a fighter's health? He didn't follow instructions and yes spitting out your gum shield, and turning back to your corner is a sure sign the fighter is looking for a way out. I guess you believe Khan wanted to continue against crawford and Charles martin wished to fight on when he stalled on one knee and waited for the ref to count to 9 to stand up and protest against the stoppage? Because you if believe/think Joshua didn't quit, then you must that those other instances were stoppages against the fighter's will.
Roflmao Martinez had no legs he could barely walk Cotto beat up a cripple. He was known for doing that
I think I understand boxing quite well actually. I have worn plenty of battle scars. A man that gave his best effort on that particular night, who got up off the floor 4 times is no quitter in my book and I don't care if It was Joshua, Fury or Wilder. Have previous fighters spit out their mouth piece or turned their backs to the referee in order to buy time to recover? Yes or No? Eddie Hearn is useless as most promoters are, they could care less about the fighters.
I have honestly never seen a fighter intentionally spit out their gum shield half way across the ring while they're down on their knees before proceeding to walk away from the ref to leave him with little option but to stop the fight. Fighters usually do their utmost to convince the ref they are ok to continue unless of course they wish for a way out, then they will give off the delayed charles martin reaction grin, half pretending that they want to continue to save face and other half giving enough indication to the ref that they want no more. Unfortunately for a heroic wordy warrior such as yourself that has so many scars to show from all battles, you will have to come to terms with the fact that Ruiz Jr no mas'd your boy. And I would heavily wager had that been Wilder pulling out of the fight like that, there'd be no hesitation from posters of your ilk, lining up one by one to call him a shameless cowardly quitter, such is the sanctimonious hypocrisy which befalls most on here.
He quit. End off. Didn’t want to continue. It’s clear as day. Whether he was tired, embarrassed or concussed after the 4th knockdown he wanted out.
I don't know, and neither do you. There certainly are more possibilities than the rumor floated here, however.
