How does AJ expect to be sharp with 8 months out of the ring?

There should ideally be 3 months break between fights, how can we expect fighters to reach their potential when they keep getting 6 months break between fight? it is ridiculous

Well most fighters are like this now days. They rarely get into the ring period. AJ has been fighting for what 6 years and has 23 fights? Wladimir Klitschko had 16 fights in his first year of fighting. George Foreman had 34 bouts in 32 months. Even if you are fighting ham and eggers it is still better to fight them than fight 1 time per year.

true enough, always thought it was a bad idea dropping from three fights a year to two. This is what happens when you disrespect the sport and the opponent in front of you.Ruiz played a blinder, all that poor fat little me routine I'm sure was done on purpose.

AJ’s athletic supporters fanboi soccer mob tribe want everything measured by what he’s done in X number of fights vs. others.

They reckon he’s three times as good as Sugar Ray Robinson because Robinson didn’t win a title until his 75th fight.

wow is that right 16 fights a year?sure puts into perspective how things are done now.Imagine the steep learning curve from 16 fights in a year?I think the reason why Joshua gasses so much is because even now he's not used to going long in fights.

I do believe that such a layoff had negative impact for AJ.

A side fact is long periods between title defences is not a modern phenomenon, Dempsey only defended title 6 times in 7 years, Willard defended twice in 4 yrs, Corbett defended twice in 4 and a half years.

Ruiz had only 5 weeks notice and still made AJ bleed blood and bone.

    Why not talk about that?

Said the same thing. 3 fights a year should be minimum.

Maybe 4 if you have a 1-2 round blow out.

Hearn is greedy and wants to keep AJ turning out to a minimum to keep interest / intrigue.

8 months is not a lot. I dont understadn your complains.

3 months break between fights at top level oposition is just stupid. Btw.

3 months is perfect. Week off after a fight and then a 10 week camp. If you’re hungry and keen to improve skills (not just keep fit) it’s ideal.

Just two different opinions. Nothing negative. I respect yours but have my own.

It's not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of stupidity. I hope you will never train a figher fighting top level opostion, I'd feel pity for him while you destroy his career.

Ali defended his title 8 times between 1975 and 1976, he only took 4 month off after Manila. That's pretty impressive, even if most of his challengers weren't first rate.

And people have suggested that he felt the pressure of fighting in America for the first time.

Here you’ve got a multimillion dollar commodity for a promoter and management team that decided for whatever reason to not acclimate him to different environments earlier in his career to prepare him for the biggest moments he might face.

Fury fought in America. Wilder fought in England and Mexico (which may come in handy later now).

Didn’t have to be tough fights - just take him over to fight a journeyman and let him spend a few weeks in the environment to get used to it.
