How hard is Ortiz kicking himself?

Unless it really was a cycling thing, he clearly made a huge mistake. Whether AJ wasn't right in the head or body, or AJ is a total sucker for counter punchers, Ortiz clearly would have won that fight this weekend. Whatever Ortiz gives up in speed to Ruiz, he more than makes up for in power. AJ would have been just as sparked out.

Ortiz could have not only made his career highest purse, but secured a rematch and an opportunity to rematch Wilder down the line on equal footing. Oops.

It was a huge mistake even before this. It probably has to be a cycling thing.

Could be but then again most of the fighters offered fights claimed not enough time. Andy however tweeted (or gram) AJ's team saying he'll fight him when no one else wanted it.

Stop it, just give Ruiz credit. There's no reason to extrapolate that Ortiz would have beaten Joshua. You just underrated Ruiz. "Whatever Ortiz gives up in speed to Ruiz, he more than makes up for in power" is reductive nonsense. Styles make fights, and speed was a factor in Joshua being left so nonplussed.

Hopefully not too hard because his defence has more holes in it than a Cuban colander and his feet are made out of cement.

Ortiz probs would have crumbled in the 3rd round plus would have gassed worse and let AJ back into the fight bit like Wlad..

People need to stop elevating Ruiz to best of the division until he has actually beaten another top 20 HW. Sure, styles make fights. But no fighter is the same and you can certainly extrapolate common features. Ortiz is a more effective counterpuncher than Ruiz on the whole. Ruiz beat AJ by counterpunching. Are there differences there? Of course, there are differences with every boxer. But it's imbecilic not to recognize there is a reasonably high likelihood that AJ also would have lost a much more proven HW who is extremely good at the thing that beat him.

Ortiz and Ruiz are totally different fighters, Ortiz has a terrible gas tank and is far slower.

    Stop disrespecting ruiz

More proven? Sorry, no. Having a "could go either way" fight against Joe Parker >>>>>>> anything Ortiz has ever done (including winner a few rounds off Wilder)

There were circumstances to this fight that Ortiz could not have predicted.

Are you a casual? Ruiz is unproven, you must be a brick, no make that a serious *****? Ruiz has a 105-5 amateur record, two Junior Olympic Golds for the Mexican National team. And as pointed out 1 loss to Parker in NZ... :duh

Lol. The worst mod in the business doesn't dissapointed. That is an utterly laughable take. A win over a near concensus top 5 HW at the time in Jennings, and two top 15 HWs in Scott and Thompson are light years beyond a loss to Parker. His loss to Parker wasnt a meaningfully closer fight than Liakovitchs loss to Ruiz. Do you think shot Sergei is a top HW?

You can argue Parker had a very good style to deal with Ruiz too

Quick around the ring, granite chin and blistering handspeed of his own

And ge still had life and death

You have shown yourself casually ignorant. The suddenly great Ruiz has never had a single win over a clear top 25 HW in the pros. And bad performances against shot Liakovich and Hamer. Amatuer is nice but a different sport, and doesn't especially stand out even there.
