Nice move , you are the heavyweight champion of the world and some wide boy promoter is going to demand you fight Joshua in his own back garden with his own ref and judges .... Have the fight in Mexico, lets see if AJ has the jewels to go fight down there ...
Ruiz is right, Hearn said he (Joshua) gave him the chance on home soil when in reality it was a business decision to conquer America, nothing to do with being fair to his opponent !
Did he actually express that sentiment? Or do you just think he should? I personally think he should.
It will come down to what's laid out in the rematch clause. If it's stipulated that it's in the UK then he might not have much choice. But Andy is right, he has some leverage now, is there a set date for when the rematch is help, if not he can just sit on the titles and wait Hearn and Joshua out, he can threaten to dump one of the belts, making Joshua have to work harder to regain them all, there's things he can do to force Hearn and Joshua to sweeten the deal and pay him more if required or given into certain stipulations he wants.
He never said that though, He said it really doesn't matter where it is as long as we get back in the ring. Time Stamped for your convenience This content is protected
You do realize the ref and judges are picked by the belt organizations? Just look at boxrec to see the officials.
I don't know what is in the contract but if their rematch doesn't state a venue and Andy dont fancy the UK then he has the power to demand that kind of thing.
Another topic without any links to confirm. Nice one... I guess it's possible, though, that Hearn didn't care to specify in the contracts that the rematch should be in the UK. They obviously underestimated Ruiz and Joshua intended to "conquer America" anyway so why bother?
I' d be surprised if Ruiz said that. Ruiz doesnt seem phased where the fight will happen and is confident and eager for fight. It probably be more beneficial to bot fighters if it happens at Wembley as it would probably make more money.
There's a good chance he'll fall into a trap, because money blinds and boxers and managers are usually stupid and/or corrupt. Hearn will likely provide the Ruiz team 'an offer they can't refuse', knowing this is do or die for the AJ brand, and Ruiz will be overconfident and take the gold. Joshua will then be able to fight very defensively and as long as he survives, which he could very well do if he fights cautious, get the decision. Hearn-J will then once again be smirking all over YT and pretending Fury only deserves 40%. If Ruiz's team is actually intelligent, they will push to have the fight in the same place so that the demons will linger for Joshua. This is probably better than in Mexico proper since Joshua may actually feel less pressure there while Ruiz may feel more. If they are contractually obligated to fight in the UK, it would be worth dumping the belts, because it's the most obvious ambush ever seen. And there is so much evidence lately of corrupt home decisions that they could justify this move.
More money perhaps.. but the odds would be stacked in AJ's favour. I doubt a fight between the two would ever go to the judges, but I wouldn't bet on Ruiz winning a decision (even if he was winning the fight) if he fought in the UK - similar to Fury/Wilder. I am pretty sure it's written into the contract that any rematch would be in the UK though, for exactly this sort of scenario. Personally I'd love to see the fight in Mexico or in California. It was such a big upset and it would be fantastic to see Ruiz defend the titles as a true 'home' fighter. He's incredibly likeable - much more so than Wilder - and I think could be pretty marketable. It could be very lucrative to Ruiz to build his name in the US/Mexico and try and push for the fight there.
Exactly. Eddie Hearn is a master of deceit. Everyone knows this was supposed to be Joshua's 'coming out party' in the USA, and Ruiz (originally Miller) was just a patsy to showcase Joshua against. Now, Eddie Hearn and his organization are going to twist and distort it as if Joshua "had to go to America". Anyway, Ruiz Jr. (unlike Hearn) is from California, so New York is really far from his home soil.
