Good control of distance with the jab. Solid movement You can definitely see how aged Liston is here with how slow he's moving, compared to his prime.
Scrap iron Johnson was as tough as they came and Liston had him on drunk legs from his jab! Marvelous fighter the most misunderstood ill perceived devil in boxing.
"All we want now is either Frazier or Ellis." -Dick Sadler, Liston's manager said post-fight. I'm glad he didn't get either of them. Seeing how old and slow Sonny was here I can't see him getting close to either man, in fact he'd likely get badly hurt particularly by Frazier. Leotis Martin left him unconscious a few months later and he was just as slow as this in that fight.
Liston has very good boxing skills that you can see going way way back. He was a well schooled fighter. On a personal note I believe hes past 45 yrs old here.
I noticed Liston had a strange stance when he throws the jab: he'll turn to the side and flick his left out. Hits with the top of the knuckles and uses a lot of sjoulder and hip. This makes it even harder for the other guy to hit him back when he punches.
