AJ will have to work at the body in the rematch.

Ruiz is obese so he doesn't have a muscle at his abdomen. AJ will have to work at the body of Ruiz mainly and move his head a lot to protect his chin from Ruiz's counterattacks. Make him worry about the body attack before going up at his chin. I do know that's not easy for AJ to hit Ruiz's body since the former is taller than the latter but he will have to try this. If AJ traded punches with Ruiz like he did in the first fight then he got KTFO again.

    Obese = no muscles

This is one of the most wrong things i have ever read in here.

Being fat has nothing to do with having NO muscles.

Working the body of Ruiz brings AJs head in the exact position for Ruiz hands. This is worst game plan you could have vs. the guy. YDKSAB. Sorry for that.

Lol AJ was trying to work the body. Ruiz didn't let him, he counterattacked with shots to the face which AJ couldn't handle. All plans become useless when you get punched in the face

AJ fans are very naive to think if he can make a gazillion adjustments in the rematch. Even if he does, what happens when he gets hit eventually? We found out in the first fight

Sure, go fo the body on a guy who has layers of padding on it, also much shorter so you have to reach down and open your chin even more, not to mention against a guy who has some of the quickest hands in the division to expose that naked chin.

    No. This is terrible idea.

I actually think that's a terrible idea because it would have him lower his head even more in Ruiz's range and would also require him to plant his feet and be more stationary making him even more of a Sitting Duck

I think he needs to work on his footwork and maybe hire and Agility coach to work on getting him to move his feet quicker so he could use his range better.

Joshua hit Ruiz with some of his best shots and never really had Ruiz in any real trouble. I think he would have to limit Ruiz and where him down little by little

Stick behind his jab (which he seriously needs to work on), pot shot in 1-2 combos, then press when Ruiz starts to let down his guard.

That would be a bad idea, Ruiz Jr probably does have a beautiful set of abs, it's just buried behind 3 inchs of flab.

Anyways, AJ doesn't need to go to the body against someone with superior hand speed, he just needs to vary his combinations and angles, keep outside of Ruiz Jr hooking range which shouldn't be too hard with AJ's reach advantage .

This. Not that AJ shouldn't work the body, but to base his entire gameplan around it would be suicide.
AJ's jab to the body is solid and it worked for him.

What he needs to focus on is his defense. He needs to figure out what to do when Ruiz counter attacks and when he suddenly explodes in offense.

Boxing 101: If you attempt to work the body against someone with much faster hands, you're gonna get countered up top.

Having fat does not = having no muscles. It's a huge misconception! Many guys who look fat, actually have more muscles hidden beneath their fat, than shredded guys who's muscles are all visible.

Furthermore, fat helps absorb punches if the fat guy in question, is properly conditioned due to the added layer. Think polar bears and other wild animals who evolved to grow fat for protective reasons. Thus, fat actually helps.

You want to go and tell a fat power lifter he has no muscles and then see what happens to you.

Furthermore, I don't think Joshua's body punches are going to have much of an effect on Ruiz's body. Ruiz is no skinny Povetkin who looked like he was skin and bones, with 0 protective layers of fat in his last few fights. Nor is he a fragile Wladimir Klitschko. Those same body shots are merely going to bounce, right off Ruiz's body with minimla effect.

This is the correct post. AJ needs to go all Wlad on Ruiz if he wants to beat him. He needs a sharp snapping jab, he needs to create space and he needs to fight tall.

Punches to a flabby midsection will cause discomfort and absolutely start draining energy. Flab doesn't give you a layer of padding that means body shots aren't punishing, that is a hilarious theory though. AJ needs to do something to drain Ruiz as Ruiz is in FAR greater boxing shape, AJ will basically be relying on a KO if he can't even up the stamina battle. Throwing less power punches is an obvious one.

How AJ can attack the body effectively while staying out of range is another question that is too difficult for me.
