Anybody know anything about the Carlos Ortiz vs Nicolino Locche fight that ended as draw? Over the weight fight for Ortiz who was the
Lightweight champ and fought in Locche's backyard.

    From "Boxing Illustrated":
The decision was loudly bbod by the fans who felt that Ortiz was entiteled to the verdict. The manager of Ortiz, Billy Daly, was quite upset by the decision, but Ortiz made no comment.
Carlos helt the upper hand in almost every round, and Locche drew frequent warning from the referee Vincente Avedano for holding and hitting.
Nicolino was also guilty of numerous clinches, never-the-less one judge voted for him and the other with the referee scored the fight even. Our ringside corrospondent had Ortiz aheda by seven points 199-192 under the complicated scoring system used in Argentina.

Myselv I have a short H/L version of the fights, but it gives no evidence.

Fighting in the backyard of a fighter with such a negative style is never good. You don't get the KO, you don't win. Not saying that's necessarily what happened here, but realistically, he wasn't going to get the decision without a KO.

You couldnt beat Locche in Argentina. Several of his fights he did nothing but mug and clown and still got the decision.

I remember reading an interview with Ortiz and he knew he got robbed but didn’t care too much. He was more interested in the title fights. The Locche fight was just a stay busy fight for him.

Even though the fight wasn't fought for a title one could imagine just how much better Ortiz's resume would look if he actually got the win over Locche. So many HOF wins on his resume such as Loi, Brown, Elorde, Laguna, Ramos. Shame that this fight always gets overlooked but it was a big robbery in a fight between 2 great fighters that people seem to have forgotten.

I think, like Whitaker-Chavez, you sort of do have to count it as a win.

I think we can all agree that on neutral territory Ortiz whups Locche.

Just a higher caliber great with more versatility to his game.
