I got into a debate on YouTube, I dont think it was this video, about Louis punching power. Another user was saying how Louis was a hard puncher for his time but wouldn't be today. When I pointed out the giants that Louis stopped, it was different because they weren't "modern giants". But I pointed out that Joe Louis hit the Anthony Joshua sized Buddy Baer so hard that he sent him spinning to the canvas and how if Wilder or some other modern heavy hit a 6'6 250 pound fighter so hard they sent him spinning to the canvas, we'd be worshiping their punching power.

I suppose that Joe Louis best right hands would ricochet off of modern day heavies like bullets ricochet off of Superman. In fact, Louis would be able to only hurt super middleweights today.

Louis is an all time great puncher regardless of his opponents size imo.Anyone think he didn't hit harder than Andy Ruiz?

    He hit hard for anytime!

Maybe Joshua has the strength over him. But does he have the speed, finesse and explosiveness?

I think that was answered last week.

This. People underestimate the importance of speed, finesse, and explosiveness, since Joe Louis wasn’t just a great puncher, but also a great finisher.

So are you saying that before last week, he did in his previous fights show he had the speed, finesse and explosiveness required but now that he lost to Ruiz, he showed that he didn’t have it after all?

    Andy hits 70 pounds harder.

Someone should start a Ruiz v Louis thread.

Joshua never had speed, finesse and explosiveness at the level of Louis.

Louis is an all time great puncher both at heavyweight and pound for pound. Anyone who cannot see this is blind.

Don't debate with Hypebeasts on youtube. I've had my fair share of "debates" with those ignoramuses

Funny .. didn't we just see a little guy , tubby but the same height with a 2" shorter reach, just destroy the "best" of the super heavyweights ? Doesn't the hardest puncher in the world fight as low as 212 ? It goes on and on .. silly stuff.

He was a lot faster and more explosive early in his career.

I think that his trainers have advised him very badly!
