Callis obviously has respect for guys excellent in bare knuckle fight to the finish, winner take all bouts and excellent gloved performers....so do i !
Just another horrible list by a nerd trying trying too hard to signal the depth of his knowledge. Charlie Mitchell and Jack O'Brien couldn't last a minute in Roy Jones' world
Nah, I'm not buying this ****. According to Tracy, Archie Moore is the 9th greatest light heavyweight. Tunney is #1 and Fitz is #2. Kid McCoy is #7. According to Tracy, Ali is the 5th greatest heavyweight. Jeffries is #1, Johnson #2, Dempsey #3, Louis #4. Holmes is #10. Frazier or Foreman aren't top 10 but Tunney is #6 and Corbett is #7. According to Tracy; Hagler, Monzon, or Lamotta aren't top 10 middleweights. Fitz is #1 here and NP Dempsey is #2. O'Brien is #3. And as usual, Kid McCoy takes the #7 spot. According to Tracy, Willie Pep is the 5th greatest featherweight. Armstrong is #1, Driscoll is #2, McGovern is #3, Arguello #4. Saddler is #8. Obviously. According to Tracy, Leonard is the 7th greatest welterweight. Robinson is #1, Dempsey is #2, Kid McCoy is #3. McCoy is really taking over at this point. Honestly, this guy makes IBRO's rankings look like a ****ing masterpiece.
Because you don't like his rankings? Pathetic and needlessly venomous to someone who's done a lot of good work.
It's a provocative list, a slanted take and an offense to boxing over the last 70 years. I get it that he's a researcher who likes fighters from the paleolithic era. We all get it. But it's overkill. While we share 4 fighters in our top 10, the inclusion of the likes of Mitchell, both Dempseys and O'Brien over Duran, and Ali is ludicrous.
You have to remember that gloved boxing wasn't the norm until the turn of the 20th century. For the record, Henry Armstrong probably wrecks Loma. Look what Linares did with some body work.
Its my belief that had any poster on this forum made that heavyweightP4P list he would now be the target of considerable scorn and derision. As it is, just about everyone finds some of his inclusions and exclusions seriously off the wall.
