I never viewed GGG as a fighter who relied heavily on his legs in terms of moving around the ring. It was always methodical footwork with him, a mid-40s fighter with high ring IQ could do it.

Chin seems solid, power still there. Reaction times maybe slowed but rust and inactivity will do that too.

Oh. That's interesting and makes some sense. I don't know if I believe it -- I'll have to think about it and maybe rewatch the fight -- but it makes sense to me.

Anyone here feel that ring rust is a factor in Triple G’s performance?

    Well besides age.

Its true, I must not let these issues get to my head. He is still a deity and nothing will change that.

Personally I thought that read far more like Mel Gibson's anti-Oksana Grigorieva rants. Which would be appropriate since he and you are every bit as disingenuous and manipulalitive as she was.

Golovkin actually looked a bit less stiff to me compared to the Vanes and Canelo 2 fights. Seemed like the new style was attempting to box loosely and less tense. Sometimes being too loose can cause you to eat shots. The 1-2-1 he ate was the same punch he took from Vanes. He got complacent after the right hand and did not expect a power jab.

Also good body shots by golovkin. He was throwing less power in some combos in favor of speed to set up the body shots. It seems to me he still feels too stiff to throw jabs to the body. He tried to once or twice but he was not able to change levels with the body jab. He needs more explosiveness with the body movement. Altitude training is likely affecting this.

His jab looks weaker than before. Also he doesn't seem confident in his speed to counter punch. There were plenty of times he could have countered the jab with a right but he didn't.

Though one thing to consider is he was off for 9 months without stepping foot into the gym AND a very very short training camp of a little more than a month. He basically went from out of shape to fighting shape in very little time. I want to see him keep working on speed and explosiveness. He needs to improve it further to have a decent chance against Canelo in the 3rd fight. While old he can still gain back some of the speed he had when he was younger, which went away partly because of his training methods.

He didn't look to bad to me. The early rounds weren't too impressive for him against Brook and Vanes either.

You can't turn it on anymore if you've completely lost your prime. Golovkin clearly turned it on in round 4 and when he did Steve Rolls was no more.

I agree. I expect him to continue to adapt and look more natural next time though. The head movement looked great at times, at others he yinged when he should've yanged.
