Let's face it. Some people like to go on loudly and proudly about subjects they obviously know very little about. What are some of the craziest / stupidest things you've non-boxing fans say about boxing or boxers? (And let's not use this as a way to bash other posters who may have opinions, as ridiculous as they can be, that differ from ours. If someone is here, they're a fan to a certain degree. I'm talking things we've heard & read in the regular world.) I'm sure many of you can top these, but here's some I've heard / seen over the years - A co-worker, mid-90's, who swore up and down that Vinny Pazienza was the best boxer in the world. Me: "He's entertaining, but he's far from the best. There's talk of him fighting Roy Jones soon. Jones is going to take him apart easily." "No way, man! Vinny can't be beat!" No comment from him when the fight actually happened. The one I saw on the forum in the last few days in which another poster was told by a medical doctor that it was impossible to knock Mike Tyson out because of the bulk of his neck muscles. A few about Muhammad Ali - Recently I've heard more than once, "Muhammad Ali was the hardest puncher ever. No one hit harder." Umm... On the news, during a story about a Muhammad Ali museum exhibit - "Muhammad Ali was the three-time WBA heavyweight champion." Why did she have to insert 'WBA' in there? Why not 'undisputed'? (After all, we all know that Ali was a FOUR-time WBA champ, thanks to that organization relieving him of his belt for signing to fight a Liston rematch, then him winning that belt back against Terrell.) At this Smithsonian Institute, a display of Ali's supposed "fight-worn" gloves. The gloves labeled as being from the George Foreman fight were red. Finally, the alarming number of times I've seen Ali's name misspelled in the press over the past few years by (presumably) professional writers. C'mon people, fact-checking something like that has got to be one of the dead simplest things a journalist could do these days.
I **** you not. I swear on my life, that a girl who I was with last year overheard me talking about Wilder and Joshua and she perked up with: Joshua should just fight Ronaldo Yes. That is right, needless to say I cut it off there and then
Ya that's the norm with sports and most girls … by the way , I hope you went for one more … for the road
One thing heard way too much by non or I'll informed fans us that Floyd jr is the GOAT...when I tell them they dont know what the #### there talking about they look at me like I have 3 eyes staring back at them. WTF
A girlfriend of a friend of mine claimed immediately after it happened that Moorer threw the fight against Foreman, saying that the punch was nothing but a tap and no one would ever go down from such a shot.
I wouldn't mind if it was an informed contrarian opinion. It's the number of people who confidently say it who's knowledge of boxing history starts and ends at vaguely knowing about Ali and maybe having heard of Sugar Ray Robinson, but knowing nothing really about him.
I was at a fight night at a buddy’s house. He knows boxing but most of the people he invited knew jack about the sport. Anyway, one fighter’s eye began to swell and this one know-nothing states aloud “they’re going to have to cut him between rounds”. I felt like weeping.
My mates know abit about Boxing, not as much as me or you like, but enough to get by and they say some funny ****. A personal highlight was Jarrell Miller is one of the greatest HWs ever When I asked him why he told me because he was so athletic for his weight, and we all saw how that came about
Oh yeah. A friend of mine (MMA fan) who bet on McGregor complained all night that the ref shouldn't have been allowed to stop the fight because McGregor never went down.
'Why doesn't he just knock him out?' Bruce Lee beats George Foreman Bruce Lee beats Mike Tyson "He should use his jab more" (nasaly voice)
