I wouldn't even back eubank Jr to beat Nigel Benn. Jr has won titles. Benn didn't even fight in the 60s lol

I'm looking for the evidence that boxing is dying. I presume this means, that the number of fights/fighters is shrinking? So let's see the numbers.

The comparison you're trying to make doesn't work. The top 10 middleweights today put in the past would the best guys picked from 154 and 160, maybe even a couple from 168. Not the 2019 top ten at 160.

If you understand anything about boxing and human physiology you can view fights from 50 years ago and realise that those guys would be journeymen at best today.
The sport has evolved, training has evolved. Even changing 15 rounds to 12 rounds, taking longer breaks between fights massively increases the quality of the sport. Athletes can peak for competition, recover properly and fight at a higher intensity. Those changes, plus the passage of time has caused the sport to evolve. Like any other sport. It’s an absurd claim to make, claiming that boxing is the only sport not to evolve.
There’s also a far greater talent pool with the Soviet and Cuban fighters entering the pro equation. Can you imagine a guy like Cooper today? And that’s a guy who almost stopped Cassius Clay.

They were able to do what they did because the level of their training/competition and their opponents was at such a low level. Low intensity fights, a battle of who was the toughest. Jab and grab, outlast your opponent. Boxing was ****ing terrible in SRR’ time, let’s be honest.
Old time fans think jab and grab is a tactical masterpiece, an esoteric move that is forgotten today. Or they’ll point to some technique that a fighter used and claim it’s gone missing as evidence of boxing’s decline in quality. No, those things appear and disappear depending on what’s effective. That is the evolution of the sport.

Athletes today are far superior physically, but inferior technically.

The technique and training method of current boxing world is, of course, more advanced. But it is without doubt that many big name boxers in the past are great talents. Names like Ali, Robinson and Foreman, for example, would swipe clean the division if they are to live in present day and given the most advanced training and boxing knowledge.

A boxer in the past that I am quite fascinated to and would wonder if he is living this era is Teofilo Stevenson. IMHO, his style is quite advanced and amazing accuracy.

Tyson has an incredible slug fest with Frazier that's a 50/50 and gets walked down and pummeled by Foreman. And Mike ain't getting up 6 times

Cooper would do great at cruiserweight no cruiser could take the hook that decked Ali.

You`re getting Robinson`s day mixed up with Jack Johnson`s era, Robinson threw more punches than most active fighters today, constant jabbing and moving, LaMotta was a pressure fighter who also actively threw punches while coming forwards, count how many body punches he threw against Robi in their final bout.
