Lol no way is he shot.Shot is when Amir Khan gets dropped over twelve rounds in a showcase fight,Kell Brook did something similar in his last fight against a nobody. Keith Thurman didn't look great in his last showcase fight.Look at De Gale when he was shot, going life and death and losing to some lesser pro. Golovkin not only beat the guy,he knocked him out so I'm not sure what else he could of done other than being a defensive wizard, fighting behind his jab for twelve rounds?
yes exactly this. James De Gale after Badou Jack is a clear example of what it is to be shot or the recipient of being in too many wars,so obvious when even the lesser guys beat you up.
Lol PA your version of "shot"is a little different to everyone elses, course Manny isn't the same beast he was but at 40 he's still good enough to beat all those outside the top ten.
37 is very old for a pressure fighter - generally the style that shows age first. Most pressure fighter are by their best by 33-34. Admittedly, Golovkin has avoided the punishment most pressure fighters take. Golovkin just looks like an aging fighter. He isn't totally shot, but he has certainly declined..... and at 37 there is no shame in it - his come forward style won't lend well to physical and reactionary deterioration.
He is way past his physical prime. The fact that he's still able to fight at his level with how much he has physically deteriorated shows the level he was at his physical prime.
While he is likely past his best, one has to factor in the fact that he doesn't have much wear and tear. Golovkin has 200 pro fights, compared that with someone like Pacquiao who 475 rounds under his belt. Also Pacquiao has been fighting pro for 25 years, Golovkin had been fighting pro for 13 years, Canelo has been fighting pro for 14 years and even he has nearly 400 rounds fought at a s pro.
Yeah, he's a lifetime athlete, like most top athletes. In the amateurs you use head gear which absorbs the punch, you also use bigger gloves which soften the punch, and the power of the punch is not a scoring factorm in fact you'll have more success in the amateurs if you throw arm punches as they are quicker to land and gives you the ability to get back in defense mode. There is a reason why amateurs can have 300 rounds in the ams but it is very rare for pro fighters to reach even 100 fights.
Headgear doesn't diminish the brain damage you take significantly. In fact, you take more punches because the added padding makes your head a bigger target. Not including the fact that the jaw and chin are completely unprotected in headgear. Fighters spar hard leading up to amateur bouts and have no limits on how frequently they fight. It's still a lot of mileage when you fight in amateurs.
How many amateur fighters have died as a result of a fight in contrast to how many pro fighters have died as a result of a fight?
That's a weak argument considering amateurs are 3 rounders but people still have died in sparring and amateur bouts. Still not addressing the fact that you still take significant brain trauma in amateurs which contributes to wear and tear. We all know most damage is taken during sparring and training camps, and amateurs train and spar year round.
