That's always baffled me as well. I was trying to explain the app to a few people at a bar just last night, and the replies "Da-zone? D-A-Z-O-N-E?" "No, that's just what it's called - it's D-A-Z-N". "Huh? How is that Da-zone?" Definitely feels like a big time marketing blunder to me. You shouldn't have to explain how to pronounce your product on an aspiring new streaming app.
Who is in charge at DAZN? Oscar wants to wait a while for GGG - Canelo 3. Hearns wants to stage Ruiz - AJ in the UK. Who calls the shots??
If it's PBC~Eddie Hearn, then yes (take money from other people, pay yourself and your boxers well). If it's PBC~DAZN, then no (DAZN is spending it's own money).
Are you trolling? We just saw a highly competir canelo fight! We just witness history in the heavyweight division! We have Andrade coming up!!! And me Golovkin filled in for his fan boys just this past week!!! Never mind the rungsvai vs Estrada fight!!! Next month we get Rey Vargas vs kameda! Ramirez vs hooker!!’ I’m a boxing fan and I’m loving dazn!!’
Dazn had NFL games and also streamed the CL final. For me that wouldn't been enough to get it on it's own but with the boxing on top its worth it.
Whether their business model is sustainable does affect all of us as fans. History is littered with fledging organisations throwing huge money at stars to get a foothold but ultimately going bust. If you don't eventually make money, you can stay afloat. Look at in MMA alone, EliteFC and tons of others WBF (Bodybuilding) XFL (American football) IPT (pool) there have been heaps
They're currently bleeding money on boxing if you ask me. The insane Alvarez and Golovkin fightpurses make overpaying the likes of Broner and Garcia look like child's play Like the PBC it's something that's clear from the start that it's losing money by the millions, and there's no denying that. Unlikely anyone is going to pull the race card in this case though, defending the business model.
Not exactly comparable. What I will say is Netflix doesn't make a profit yet we are not saying they are going bust anytime soon.
Netflix have the option to create thier own content and when they have done its been pretty good the majority of the time DAZN dont have that option They have to purchese content I hope they do well as id like a similar concept here in the UK But i have my doubts
