What do you mean 'in this day and age?' There's more understanding and acceptance of mental illness 'in this day and age' than ever before.

Indeed, it's accepted to such an extent that it's never questioned. Even when a proven drug cheat and committed talker of nonsense, such as Tyson Fury, who's entire situation appears to be self diagnosed, states he's mentally ill, then he is.

    Here he is, hiya Tony!!!

Right-e-o...where to start with this one. There’s still a huge stigma and stereotypes associated with mental illness. There is still discrimination whether it’s meant or not, due to a lack of understanding of it. For example, your ‘appears to be self diagnosed’ line is quite typical of discriminating attitudes... ‘They must be lying, he’s making it up, they’re just being dramatic, they’re just attention seeking’ etc etc.

2 equally qualified and experienced people apply for the same job. One of them as previously had time off with depression...which one is more likely to get the job, Tony?

They’re more likely to be unemployed, socially isolated, not in a relationship, living in poverty...so if you become mentally ill, you’re not likely to talk to anyone about it because naturally you’ll be scared of being treated differently, not understood or even marginalised by the people around you, your employers etc.

So yes, Tyson Fury is brilliant for holding his hands up and saying ‘i suffer from mental illness and i’m the best heavyweight on the planet, if I can talk about it then so can you’.

You still shedding a tear over your poster boy getting a spanking off the fat boy the other week? Listen, you can talk to us about it on here. Big hugs.

No but he cheated and took PEDS to get an edge. That to me is the lowest of the low and shows an even weaker mental character compared to someone getting their head scrambled from a punch and not knowing where they are. Let’s atleast be honest about it.

Was that before or after he decided to take PEDS and jump in the ring to punch other boxers heads in. If I’m not mistaken a lot of those mental health issues came hot on the heels of a drug test failure.

I remember him talking about his mental health issues over 10 years ago. Obviously, if you are already battling with mental illness, dealing with difficult stressful issues will only exacerbate it but in-turn, the mental illness may trigger these difficult stressful issues.

The Peds are a different issue that I cannot be bothered getting into. It’s been done to death.

A lot of words but no real answers.

What do mean 'in this day and age?' Nobody is saying people with mental illness don't suffer because of the fact. I'm saying there is way more understanding and knowledge about mental illness today than there ever has been.

Secondly, I'm still not sure (much like those PPV figures) that we have any source for him being mentally ill beyond him saying he is. Anyone can talk about going to a dark place, feeling things are too much to bear and so on. Where was Tyson treated? Which organisations helped him? Why is so much of this shrouded in secrecy?

I think these are fair questions. Fury repeatedly contradicts himself, says things which seem ludicrous or far fetched, as do those around him. I think a bit of scepticism is healthy. I'm definitely suspicious of that fact that all these mental health issues seemed to come to the fore when he was busted for being a drug cheat, diagnosed by no one else other than Doctor Fury.

We dont have a source for him being mentally ill, beyond him saying it. What do you expect, his doctor to give an interview to ifl confirming it lol.

Agreed there are mental health issues there. Perhaps being allowed to take trauma to the head isn’t the best idea if they exist.

However the character of the man is questionable talk of of hanging his sister, homophobic comments, lying about giving all his purse to charity, and PED use. That’s without the constant rubbish he spouts in interviews.

He’s talked about seeing doctors multiple times - what do you want, a doctor’s note to confirm?

The guy is from a tough travelling family - it totally goes against much of their belief system to talk about their mental health. He’s not going to just make it up..

Do you know how mental health conditions such as bi-polar are diagnosed, mate? I do by the way, i’m just wondering if you do.

The doctor and/or psychiatrist is NOT going to disclose information about their patients or any diagnosis. Not if they want to be struck off, anyway. However, if you don’t think his outward behaviour & his openness about his symptoms these past few years ticks the old criteria in the ICD-10 (a diagnostic tool/book that psychiatrists use) then you are blinded by your dislike/hatred of the man.

Fury seems a lot more level these days (for the time-being). I imagine the medication (probably Lithium), his openness about his difficulties, the on-going support and acceptance from those around him and the seemingly continuous camps is keeping him balanced.

Of course, the famous traveller code that prevents lying and ensures honesty at all times. How did I forget.
