Good post. All this implication that Fury was lying or exaggerating is pretty nasty really.

I also have some experience in mental health and exposure is definitely much higher today than it's ever been. The double-edged sword of that is that people will self-diagnose which is a big problem especially for teenagers and young adults who are still developing.

I do not believe that Tyson self-diagnosed or exaggerated his condition though, as I said before - his family and culture means that even admitting to it within his closest family and friends is a big step - let alone the rest of the world.

Tyson also talks about mental health in a way only someone who actually understands it can. I agree with a lot of his ideas on dealing with symptoms - exercise, regular routine and purpose basically. I think abiding by those three things would do wonders for a vast % of people who feel down or depressed.

A great post mate. Like you say some people purely through hatred of Fury spout alot of nonsense. It will get worse with them now as they thought after his lay off and the abuse his body took that he would never be the best again(not that they could accept he was the best to begin with as Klitschko wasnt motivated or at his best like when he fought AJ lol). Fury because of his absence from boxing will no doubt never reach 100% of his potential but he is still a level above the rest.

On a side note he reminds me of Gazza, a flawed genius with mental health problems. Like Gazza needed the routine of football, Fury needs the routine of boxing. When it's time for him to retire I hope he runs a mental health charity like Frank Bruno does and helps those who are suffering and as much helps himself.

Either you don't understand or have purposely misrepresented the reply.

In travelling communities, talking about someone's own feelings or mental health isn't common at all. Machismo is still a big part of life, and could well be seen as a sign of weakness.

He did two interviews in the last two days - one with Kugan and one with Gareth Davies. I would provide you with a timestamped link but I can't remember which interview it was.. but in one of them; he talks about this directly and says how some of his family thought he was attention seeking at first.

Agreed with all that, bud. I think the talks (and charity work) he’s doing will be helping him big time & will give him something to focus on after boxing, which he needs.

Bang on. I can imagine it being like this in lots of families, in different social classes, in lots of different cultures. Whilst it’s more openly discussed in conversation and in the media it’s possibly still regarded as one of those things that happens to someone else, in someone else’s family.

I don't hate anyone in this world as much as Tony Hayers hates Tyson Fury. Thank God! Imagine living your life like that. Madness....

I suppose it would be interesting if, for example, when his team were saying medical evidence would be provided to the sanctioning bodies, if that evidence ever arrived? Or why, for example, when MIND we're discussing Fury and mental health awareness, they revealed he hadn't be in touch?

I don't need a doctors note. I just don't really trust Fury to be honest about anything given how much garbage he spouts, yet when he talks about mental illness he's an oracle who must be trusted without question. I'm sure the women struggling to come to terms with abortion were glad when Tyson compared them to people who abuse kids. I'm certain that gay kids trying to deal with their sexuality were given a big mental health boost when Tyson suggested they deserved to die. I suppose I'm asking if a bloke who was happy to come out with that would lie about being ill in order to distract from the fact he's a drug cheat.

It is the typical Tyson Fury crap.

Dismisses Whyte - because he knows Whyte would cause him problems.

Joshua - if he knew he couldn't box then why make ridiculous demands to box him?

Wlad - why do everything you can to avoid fighting him again.

The most noticeable thing he said is he fights who he wants..which is true, he handpicks who he wants to fight and gets free ride of it because his personality.

That's evidence in itself isn't it? Those comments he made some years ago sound like the words of someone with a mental health problem. From watching his interviews on the subject, it was around that period (whilst still fighting actually) when he was at his lowest and was totally self-destructive.

Fury is clearly flawed, contradictory and unreliable. To suggest that he's undertaken over a years worth of campaigning on his own mental health which has been seen by millions of people is a lie is reaching a fair bit though don't you think.

Supposing what you say is true, and the mental health stuff is all false to cover up the drug accusations - surely you'd just mention it a couple of times as an excuse and try to sweep it under the carpet. Fury has gone on and on about mental health (actually a little too much in my opinion), if it was a lie to cover up you wouldn't draw attention to it so much.

It's evidence that he's an idiot who says things that would probably be very hurtful to some people. I don't think it's evidence that he's mentally ill.

I'm not sure - those were incredibly ignorant comments and not usual things for a totally healthy person to say. I'm not excusing him for saying them at all by the way, but perhaps it does indicate at the time he wasn't in his right mind. He absolutely wouldn't say them now - and what's changed? He's grown up and he's in a better place mentally.

Care to reply to the rest of my post by the way?

For a mental health suffer to ignore another's is very sad and if that one as to be ignored or not accepted why should tyson s especially when his conveniently came around when caught eating boar meat

Sympathy and acknowledgement works on a two way street
but double standards and agendas are well accepted and allowed in this day and age

    Back to talking nonsense again...

Why would he be in touch with mind? I’ve had counselling...I didn’t go through mind...there are many more routes to mental health help and support than mind and better ones too.

Just let it go. You think it’s a charade, we get it...

Im far from an expert but working in the huge University environment i currently do
Means i have to be up to speed with the basics of mental Health issues

So many different cultures are petrified to ever speak about it
    Mostly out of fear
