It was never going to be a success on the level of AJ's previous PPV 'spectaculars' considering the fight start time and the last minute change of opponent to an aesthetically unpleasing replacement.
Given it appears tickets were essentially being given away by touts on the day. There does seem a chance the Americans just have no interest. So maybe the DAZN numbers ain't far away. Did see a Hearn interviewing describing the DAZN figures as "OK" which isn't exactly that confident.
If Joshua done 400k PPV buys with a 3am start time that is pretty impressive. Hearn knows the rematch will do at least double once the sky hype train gets under way.
The rematch will do huge numbers, if it’s in the U.K. then easily 1.5 million. Maybe half that if it’s in the US. People are very intrigued about this rematch, I’ll admit I didn’t care about the first fight and I’m sure others thought the same.
The UK figures sound accurate and decent. Fury/Wilder done similar and that's fighting each other. Are we saying only 10,000 watched on DAZN? I don't believe that. Surely a lot more than that watched on DAZN.
Approx 900k in the Uk. 600k in the US. Even though they are probably aware of the numbers; the pubic announcement of such figures must surely provoke some kind of response from the tv companies
Why are people listening to this nonsense. Its already been mentioned that the PPV number did half the buys of Joshua vs Povetkin which is approximately 550k. This is very decent considering it was a US fight at 3am against an unknown opponent in the UK. The DAZN stream was watched by slightly more than Joshua vs Parker on Showtime in the US alone. Without thier other territories. That would put it in the region of 390,000 which is great numbers on a new platform fighting a stand in opponent. The big thing however is the sheer marketing and brand awareness the event would have gained DAZN their brand was seen all over the world due to Ruiz winning. The rematch will likely now do similar numbers as Wilder vs Fury 2
I don’t believe the DAZN numbers could possibly be so low, maybe it is the number of users who subscribed to watch the show that month. Regardless even if that is the case it is appalling. I predicted long ago that the Matchroom-DAZN relationship and DAZN’s foray into boxing generally will end in catastrophic failure. I said a long time ago that the numbers do not add up and none of the figures make business sense. People argued against me vehemently as if DAZN is a family member lmfao.
