Brook beat a good American champion in LA to win the world title. Bellew never beat a champion to win a title at any level.
Good fighter, could have been great. Should have been in with Thurman, Garcia. There was talk of a unification with the guy who held the WBO which was seen as winnable. Wasted 3 fights after the Porter win which was a very good one to fight no names. Why the hell did he fight Gavin??? Wasted his career really. The GGG fight was stupid - in the same way Khans challenge of Canelo was and now they are both shot to s**** If they do fight later this year it will almost look like 2 drunks swaying after the pub. Khans never been able to hold a big shot and Brook felt Zeferas punches more than once. Probably time to call it a day. He doesn't know what weight class he wants to box in, long periods of inactivity and a couple of bad injuries inside and out of the ring.
He's the biggest waste of talent in recent years (except maybe Saunders). He should, and could, have forged his own path after becoming champion rather than being strung along by Khan. After beating Porter I think he was probably the top 147 fighter and had he unified with Vargas he would have been in a great position. He wouldn't have taken the GGG beating and would have had a great chance at beating Spence. He's had some bad luck, getting stabbed, Brexit messing with the Vargas fight, but he also overvalues himself and hasn't chased bigger opportunities. I'm sure the GGG money was good but it didn't serve him well in the long run.
100%. The stabbing set him back but the GGG money grab ruined him as he couldn't make 147 properly nevermind the mental scars. He was arguably beating Spence after 6 rounds.
He definitely was, but so was Bellew vs Usyk...McGregor was drawing with Mayweather after 6 rounds. It’s a 12 round fight and some elite fighters are comfortable figuring their opponents out and happy to give away/invest a few rounds for later in the fight. Spence was a level up from Brook imo. Brook did well to a point but I think Spence was always going to smash him up over the stretch.
