Big strong traps also help to support the neck, strong back supports the traps, strong legs support the back etc, like a chain with no weak spots in the links. Great conditioning also helps.

It's got nothing to do with the size of your neck. AJ imitates Mike Tysons neck workouts and lol b it didn't help him for Jack. You either have a granite chin or you don't

Floyd had a massive head towards the end of his career due to the roids, but he still had a shaky chin that made him 'fight' like a lil b****.

Well, this thread has only proved that we really have no clue what makes a good chin. I'm sure there is a scientific explanation for why some people have good chins and why other don't, but that study has probably never been conducted and may never be.

Carl Froch had a long neck and one of the best chins of recent years.

Punch resistance IMO is probably very similar amongst most people other than the psychological / learnt aspect of how to deal with getting punched.
OK some minor variation based on neck size, skull thickness and other physical make up.
The biggest factors are WHERE on the skull someone is punched, the angle of the punch, power, whether they saw it coming/braced etc.
We all compare similar looking punches and their effects, but 1cm either way (imperceptible to us) could make a massive difference in how the brain is affected and therefore our perception of that fighter's "chin".
"Chin" is more about a fighters ability to NOT GET HIT in the places that get them KTFO.

    Not another “Big-Heads” thread?!

Punch-resistance is like punching-power, either you have it or you don’t. You can’t ‘learn’ it in the gym

Mexicans have shorter necks and big heads and are notoriously tough to ko so there could be something to it. I believe having a bigger head may help but there have been guys with regular sized heads who could take a punch so who knows.

Yeah this is just fun speculation.

It could also be something like bone density. Bone density can vary pretty wildly. For example, I found this story quite fascinating: https://www.the-scientist.com/notebook-old/the-worlds-densest-bones-47155

Undoubtedly if those guys were pro boxers they'd have a huge advantage over your average joe.

Well, we'll get a chance to test out this hypothesis later today when Tom "Giant Square Jaw Melon Head" Schwarz gets in the ring with feather fist Fury.

I think there is some truth to it. A big head and neck means your brain is not jolted as easily.
