I wonder how many complaints Breidis has against him, as a police officer.

You should watch the replay then because it wasn't a graze. it landed flush.

I can't have too much sympathy for Glowacki regarding the elbow. The rabbit punch he hit Briedis with that led to the retaliation was one hundred percent intentional and not the first he'd thrown in the fight, along with attempted use of the head earlier in the round. I don't agree with repaying a foul with a foul but I can totally understand how these things can go down in the heat of combat, especially against a fighter who's known to be dirty and who was already showing signs of roughhousing up to that point.

What happened after that was wholly the ref's fault. After deducting the point from Briedis he should have given Glowacki five minutes to recover, as per the rules of a foul, even if he thought Glowacki was milking it. He then should have picked up on the bell, which was ringing solidly and loudly for a good long while, along with numerous cornermen signalling to him which he ignored. Once he realised that the bell had already sounded long before the second knockdown he should have given Glowacki another five minutes to recover followed by a doctor's check. He certainly shouldn't have sent him out for the third round in that condition.

So he basically screwed up three times, not giving Glowacki a time out to recover, not hearing the bell and not halting the action again after the second KD (granted he was probably highly confused at that point and desperately trying to assert some authority over the fight, but then he's clearly incompetent and shouldn't be reffing if that was the case). There are very good grounds for overturning the result, and I hope it's done so. Briedis can't proceed to the final like this.

Cant see this video in my country. But as i remember golwacki was holding his jaw after elbow not his eye. If the elbow landed flush i agree there should have been 5 minute break.

In arena it looked like faked it...

And yes fighting after the bell and kd gowlacki 2nd time sure benifited briedis

Briedis coment about bell was not cool

I like how the ref kept talking to them even though it was obvious that neither spoke a word of english. Why they use refs that don't speak the language of the fighters is beyond me. And letting them fight after the bell like that?:calimero1:

    I agree with your take.

All in all I think people are overreacting to the elbow given that Glowacki threw a blatant rabbit punch and also really hammed up his reaction (note the delay in his fall). It wasn't DQ worthy but a 1-2 point deduction was fair. Byrd still dropped the ball on multiple levels, especially in not giving Glowacki a 5 minute break and missing the bell.

I think the easy solution is to mandate Glowacki get first dibs on the winner of Briedis-Dorticos. Seems like the least amount of hassle, and I don't want to see the final get pushed back for an immediate rematch.

That seems fair, actually, although it somewhat cheapens the final to have one guy going in who basically shouldn't be there.

Eh, whatever. This whole WBSS this year has been a real disappointment. I'd sooner it was over and done with personally.

Some people here are like they know nothing about boxing. Rabbit punches are part of boxing and you get warning for them and eventually point deduction for that. It could be after few rabbit punches or after many. Elbows are totally illegal and not part of the boxing. It is like hit the other boxer with a kick or a knee. If the elbow are thrown hard and land - this is 100% DQ, just like it was in the fight.
Also after such a fault, if the punch for example low blow you give the affected fighter 5 minutes to recover from the illegal punch.
People should understand there is a reason fighter not fight with bare hands. At this level if you get hit flush even if it`s not 100% power by elbow, which is not cover with anything you are going down and will mess your whole fight.
Elbow shots are the most dangerous one in MMA and in Muay Thai. They are very deadly.
I`m gutted with this ref. Should have stopped the fight right away after the elbow, if it`s need to rewatch the situation and DQ Briedis.
Also the fight goes 20 second after the non-stop ringing bell is so bad for the sport. There shouldn`t be such incompetent at the top level of boxing.
    This is a pure disgrace.
Also team Głowacki should have react and stop the fight immediately. How the f**** they didn`t charge the ring and not stop the fight in the moment or atleast after the end of the round 2 is beyond me.
Glowacki need to change his team ASAP.
Anyway if this piece of ****** want us to look at this as a serious sport anymore, they need to change the decision right away and either make it NC or DQ lose for Briedis.
Otherwise i`m done with this *****.
I`m not a fan of either and just wanted a good show, but not this one.
