Could Roy Jones Jr. have won the heavyweight championship from someone like Andy Ruiz Jr.?

I think this belongs in general because Ruiz is an active fighter, I personally feel Ruiz would have destroyed Jones but some guys on Quora disagreed, were they right or am I making sense here?

If it were Andy, Roy would not have made the fight, lol.

Well if you look at the Parker fight, you can see how Jones would have had the edge at keeping his distance.
    Ruiz's biggest problem is footwork.

When you pay attention to Hamer when he is moving, Ruiz had a hard time following and initiating.
Of course Ruiz has improved and is now much better at closing the distance.

Liakhovich kept the fight at a distance and it caused massive issues for Ruiz.

    Same with Parker.

And heck, even Joshua kept him at bay for long stretches.
Jones was a freak. Too many people only think of his chin.

Jones didn`t have AJ`s reach and power though or a long consistent jab, he preffered hooking to jabbing, he would keep range with his straight right lead instead, but not for long.

Jones didn’t have the chin to scrap with any heavyweight that hits as hard as Andy. That’s why Jones won one belt and got the the **** outta Dodge before those Corrie Sanders fight talks got any louder.

Roy did talk a lot though after winning that HW strap. Claimed he could “Whoop” Vitali a bunch of times.

No. Jones could potentially have won a few rounds and made Ruiz look silly. But as soon as Ruiz would connect it would be over.

Yes. Unbelievable how overrated Ruiz is now because he exposed the fraud

I dont know if Ruiz would be fast enough. When Joshua wanted to move he was able to escape from Ruiz and I think Ruiz was following him and not cutting him off. I think Jones would be able to land and escape.

John Ruiz was pretty limited but he had a pretty good track record compared to Ruiz with wins over Holyfield, Golota, Oquendo, McCline, Rahman and Tony Tucker

He has close losses to Valuev (I thought he won the first fight) and Chagaev

While there is the clinching and him being boring and he wasnt on the level of lennox lewis during lewis's era but he was a very effective operator with a good resume and Jones more or less handled him

Now Andy Ruiz is much bigger than John Ruiz and I would say he is a better counter puncher and a more dynamic puncher. I think Jones would be the favorite for me

My biggest problem with rating Jones at heavyweight is his trail of KO losses, lack of real killer power over 175 or even at 175, and only 1 fight at heavyweight. So its such a tiny sample

I actually think when Joshua stayed outside he made Ruiz look clueless on how to cut the ring off. Ruiz really had success when Joshua decided to stick around and commit fully to his shots and get countered. He got hurt in exchanges or when being timed. Ruiz would allow him to escape from the ropes on many occasions. He also didnt do a whole lot in round 1 and 2 and even after a big round 3 spent much of round 4 getting a breather.

I think he struggles with movers and cant press for 12 full rounds and I think this would mean big problems vs Jones.

I just question Jones on the limited heavyweight experience and the power/punch resistance difference

Andy Ruiz would have done better then John Ruiz because Andy would have taken a lot more risks and once he started connecting Roy would realize he’s in over his head.

Not to say Roy couldn’t do really well based on his athleticism, speed and abilities. I just think John Ruiz came along at the right time.

Andy Ruiz is skilled and would land more punches and much harder ones than The Quietman. I don't think Roy could deal with it for 12 rounds, particularly with VADA testing.

If Andy couldn't get to the head he would have attacked the body imo. But of course we're all just guessing, like always in these fantasy fights.

Ruiz is too big and strong for Jones.
