Hi John, no I don't imply that nor mean that. I just don't think fighters should be ranked in more than one weight, generally speaking. I know some fighters campaigned long enough in at a lighter weight where you wouldn't be wrong for placing them there, but their NOT really that weight in stature. their were sooooooo many Catchweight fighters, because they had to be to get fights, money and recognition, but as I said that doesn't automatically equate them as a lower or higher weight fighter. Len Harvey, fought in every division, but Len Harvey is NOT a Fly, BW, LW, WW, MW (arguably gets rated as such) nor a HW... but Stature wise Len Harvey is Ever Inch and Pound a Light - Heavyweight, his TOP fights below that are point scorers and serve his overall career as great markers, his TOP fights North of that, at HW Propels his Overall Career Marks plus, plus. this how I think ALL fighters should be Rated, at their ONE Main, longest and Optimum Weight - as young fighters, fighters Pass Through Lower Divisions, as Older Veteran's, fighters Finish Off in Higher Divisions, but it is neither Accurate and in Many Cases Fair to Rate them in these Divisions.
Hi back. I'm missing the point a little as this thread is only about punching power, not resume etc. If it was resume it would be a different matter i think. Fitz for many definitely belongs high in a list of big hitting middleweights. Now if you asked those same posters where he ranked resume wise it would be a vastly different story.
If Harvey was anything he was a middleweight , he had 50 fights in that division, and only 17 at lhvy and above!
I asked for a top ten you've listed 23, half of whom would not be on anyone else's list. It seems a rather wayward approach as Miranda has no stoppage wins of any note at middleweight neither does Abraham, and Pavlik had just 2.
Why not list Golovkin, he had lots of stoppages at middle weight, and the video shows the force of his blows?
NONE TODAY, Loads Yesterday... why? because yesterday they were 170lb Catchweight Fighters, fluctuating Up or Down depending what the fight & terms were. Today they are 6'1" 190lb men with 5 months to make weight and fight DOWN!
Tony Mundine deserves a mention as the iron chinned Carlos Monzon paid tribute to Mundine power saying '' he fought an Aust kid who hit him and had him out , but he just didn't follow up. '' Monzon stopped Mundine in 7 rds in a title defense.
You are incorrect. He won the middleweight championship of the world before he achieved major success in the US at higher weights. He was and deserves full consideration as a middleweight champion as much as Dick Tiger or Roy Jones or James Toney.
If its any fighter that once boxed at middleweight I'd have Satterfield number one I feels he's p4p hardest hitter ever. Langford would also be top 5. However if its ppl who boxed a long period and the weight and fought at the highest level their then: 1. Fitzsimmons 2. Jackson 3. Ketchel 4. McCellan 5. Benn Middleweights had a lot of punchers Valdez, Lausse, GGG, Hagler, Robinson, Muagbi & Hearns are other candidates.
