Initially I was gonna say Jones for sure but if the ref took the night off Ketchel rough stuff would seriously affect Jones where this could be interesting. Still likely Jones but Ketchel had serious power and with the ruleset in his favor he has a chance.

I think you have to go with Jones ,though Ketchel has the proverbial punchers chance.

I think Ketchel hangs tough in there. Far worse fighters than Ketchel managed to survive for a while even after being made to look silly against Jones. Once Jones backs up to the ropes like he usually does, Ketchel will unleash bombs. I believe it turns into a boring fight by the mid rounds with Ketchel pressing ineffectively and Jones staying away. Roy by close decision

You'd have to favour Jones pretty heavily I'd think.

Edit: Just refreshed my memory a bit. Yeah, Ketchel basically has a puncher's chance. See for yourself:

LOL Jones is so fast he also looks like those old-ass films with missing frames. Maybe Ketchel could maul and tire RJJ over a 20 rounder, though god knows I doubt it.

I will just add that Ketchel had a much harder punch than Glen Johnson.

I agree - if folklore is to be believed, whilst JT and BHop are considerably more skilled IMO, perhaps there is the age old danger of Ketchel's unorthodoxy being more of a danger to Jones in terms of breaching his defence?

Perhaps, Stanley could sneak mule punch him into unknown waters?

For the record, I don't believe that the Jones of 168 lbs is in much danger from anyone in history, weighing the same, of getting stopped by a one punch shot - especially not somebody as relatively crude as I believe Ketchel to be. If Ketchel is allowed to maul and wrestle in the clinch, then it does raise a question of how Roy adapts, but as a pugilistic contest, this is a mismatch for my money.

I make Jones out to be one of the elite H2H fantasy match-up fighters between 160 - 175 lbs.

I think people would rate Ketchell much higher if we had footage of him KOing Papke, O'Brien, the Sullivans etc.

It's funny how people rate punchers, who achieved way less, way higher, seemingly just because they got to see it.

Well, I stated it would finish inside 3 rounds so I'm going to respond to that. I personally rarely make those sort of predictions but in this case I think that's almost exactly what Jones would need to do to make sure he could win this fight.

Hagler didn't fight the way he did against Hearns in many of his previous fights (e.g. he got it tactically wrong against Duran and struggled) but he got it spot on against the Hit Man. He banked on having the power and a greater ability to absorb punishment and those tactics paid off big time (inside 3 rounds in fact!).

If Jones tried to box and move for 20 rounds against Ketchel under the rule set described in the OP he'd put himself in a position to give Ketchel a greater chance. I'm banking on him getting this one tactically right and using his superior speed and size to leverage his own power and get Ketchel out of there as quickly as possible. And at 168, I'm backing him to do it - inside 3 rounds.

That's also a fair point. With RJJ we have all the highlight reels to refer to and for Ketchel not really that much.

I love Ketchel but have to go with Jones, he is too fast, plus has power ot hurt Ketchel with all the punches he will land, it will be too much for Stanley to be able to keep up with him for long, the accumulation of all those punches will soon stop him, and I don't think Roy gets it much if at all, similar to the Gatti-Mayweather fight.
