Are there any unwritten rules in Boxing? Baseball seems to have a hundred of them. I was just wondering if there is a list of unwritten rules for boxing. Do the rules ever change to give one boxer an advantage over another? Example: Has a boxer ever been given a handicap?
Back at the turn of the century you'd see stuff like one of the fighters has to get the KO to win, usually in fights which would otherwise be mismatches.
Don't follow a puncher Don't jab a jabber Don't hook with a good left hooker I'm honestly just reciting quotes from George Foreman from Bowe Holyfield 1
As a penalty for coming in overweight, Pacquiao had to wear 8-ounce gloves against Torrecampo (who wore 6-ouncers).
I just remembered! There's a no sex rule. I just don't know if this rule is only for a bout, or does it includes training too? There must be a time limit but I don't know what that is either. Does it really make the legs weak?
I don't think there was an unwritten rule as such - but back during the 20s and 30s, with a lot of boxers having a LOT of fights, there must have been (at least in some cases) some sort of "understanding" between these busy men, to put up a good show for the fans... without hurting each other too much. Since one (or both) could have a fight coming up already the following week, it would have been in everybody's interest not to go all out in an attempt to flatten your opponent.
