Recently been watching the last 4 AJ fights and even though he struggled through most of them hearn still had us believing he was the best heavyweight on the planet and then the Ruiz fight confirmed what was fairly obvious that AJ is just a wrecking ball but as the levels have gone up it proves he is very limited.

But still hearn had me believing he was elite!

Takam- Joshua struggled and the performance was average hearn convinced me AJ had been ill but still took the fight - still the best in the world.

Parker - shocker of a fight ref stopped any work Parker tried to do- hearn called it a boxing masterclass- Joshua best in the world.

Povetkin - Joshua had a shocking camp and was ill ,still managed to ko the third best heavyweight in the world according to hearn - Joshua best in the world.

Ruiz - Joshua was showing he was the best in the world until he got caught and never recovered. Hearn says Joshua still the best in the world and will win rematch.

Is hearn just a brilliant con man or delusional ?

I know Joshua is immensely well paid but hearn I feel just puts more and more pressure on him every fight with this talk.

Anybody still think AJ is the best in the world?

He held 4 belts and had the best resume. Of course he was regarded as number 1. Obviously I don’t think he is anymore.

Not a conman but an absolutely brilliant sales and marketing whizz who very quickly grasped the power of social media to promote him, his brand and his fights for very little -while cultivating lots of social proof and a dedicated, rabid troll army. He was and is a celebrity promoter and if nothing else, people who feel a bit stung should read up on how powerful influencers work and the psychology behind it. Once you know it, you won't get stung to the same degree again.

Problem is, it all hinged on AJ coming up with the goods and as you said, the moment that stopped the facade wore thin. To give him credit, it wasn't as if he didn't try to diversify the brand but the reality as always boils down to numbers. There simply aren't enough boxers in the UK who tick all the boxes re looks, charisma, weight class and talent to take forward the way AJ was.

He birthed the Matchroom casual and for that I will forever hate him.

A very good conman who knows how to reel in the PPV mugths - the Bellew and Haye pre-rehearsed scripted acting was first class.

The mugths never learn with many of them having no idea Haye was retired since 2013 with career ending injuries.

"It's fahhhkin Joshua you slaaaag, of course he's gunna knock this geeza clean spark out. Eddie said on Koogan's video. Me and the lads can spend the undercard smashing jagers and doing lines in the pub bog, then hit the town after in our Lacoste polos, quiffed hair and big trainers. Ya want some do ya, DO YA?"

"Oh hang on, footy seasons started again. Boxing what? Nah, not guna bother mate, too busy updating my twitter profile with a stadium. Right, I'm on my break in Nando's and I've just worked out, that in my considered opinion, Widler and Fury deserve precisely £50k between them. Why? Cos AJ's the fukin A-Side mate, and plus I've watched enough iFL to know how to work these things out. PPV's, gates, ticket sales. Eddie said. Stubhub? Never heard of it, whatever it is if Eddie's behind it it's sure to be a winner."

I’ve spent time with both Matchroom casuals and hardcore forum fans.... they both have as much knowledge as each other but Matchroom casuals are clearly more dignified (they don’t spend every day on a boxing forum)

I’m just a casual forum poster, specialising in the blindingly obvious & sitting on the fence - hopefully I just make it in to the ‘dignified’ crowd.

You make a good point about Joshua looking pretty lackluster in his previous 4 fights, it's very true he failed to impress.

Up until Ruiz he seemed to have the intangibles to pull it out but thinking back on it he'd been looking a disaster waiting to happen since the Whyte fight really

As for Hearn he just understands the casual, beer swilling, football song singing numpties that are everywhere in modern Britain. Yo be honest I actually don't blame him, he's sniffed out the easy money and knows how to make his events the "cool" place to take your insta selfies at.

He is OK, but nothing on what we have had in the past. And that is probably a good thing.

    Previous 4 fights were:
    Klitschko
    Takam
    Parker
    Povetkin

Arguably he failed to impress in the Takam fight and the flaws we’re always there, but let’s not start rewriting history
