It says that Kovalev made approximately $2 million in each of his fights with Ward, and those were PPVs. How is being guaranteed to make 3 times as much as he did vs Ward a nonsense offer ?
Because he would have been facing a fighter who is making a guaranteed $30m+ for his fights and because his last opponent made $12m (Jacobs) and because he is a known and proven PPV megastar.
they can do it after the yarde fight and Canelo is likely to get slightly better and Kovalev slightly worse.
Canelo and Bivol is a winnable fight for canelo as they'd do it at 168. Beterbiev and Gvosdyk as understand I'm not saying they are the better of the 4 175 champs but they are the worst styles for Canelo, especially beterviev. someone like Callum Johnson would be a terrible style for Canelo too.
Legit ducked Stevenson on paper (not popular on this forum, but shhhhhhh). Similar to this but at the time even worse and even worse with what we know they agreed to and signed otherwise.
Meanwhile, GGG got his HBO break about the same time Kovalev did, became a much bigger draw, and made more in one Canelo fight than Kovalev has in his entire career. Kovalev might be the single most wasted promotional opportunity in the last twenty years. Here was a dominant knockout puncher with atittude and a backstory, and Duva couldn't even get him to be more than a slightly more popular Glen Johnson (no offense to the Road Warrior).
Why doesn't Canelo just try to get Andre Ward out of retirement? Kovalev is already late 30s and has been TKO'ed twice in his last 5 fights.
I could see Duva and Kovalev's point: "If Danny Jacobs made $12 million in Canelo's fight, why not me? You want to fight me and I'm the champ up here at 175." He definitely wants to make it worth his while.
