Kovalev is completely shot. It's the only reason hes the one who got an offer. Wheres offers for the other Champs in the division? They know a shot fighter when they see one
Ward II. Kovalev got paid peanuts that night. Kovalev got paid a % off the gate and PPV sales. Meanwhile Ward was guaranteed 6.5mil. They only sold about 6000 tickets and up to 160k PPV's.
That's what happens when you give A class fighting talent D class promoting talent. Those fights should've been massive. They had plenty of compelling storylines so obvious that a ****** could've worked the angles better.
I think Kovalev vs Stevenson not happening affected both guys popularity.. This is why you can’t complain about Adonis taking the contract with SHO which paid him handsomely while Kathy was screwing Sergei.. The whole WBC mandatory ordeal was also a bad look where they begged to enforce it then backed out when it was clear PBC was gonna outbid HBO.. Great comparison to GGG because their careers was pretty parallel with the exception of K2 having GGGs best interest matchmaking before the Nelo fight and even after.
Kathy is and always has been a small time promotor. Kovalev came here and saw how "much" dollars he was earning (compared to roubles) and stuck to Kathy because he had never seen that type of money before. Look how many high profile fights he has had and how little money he has made. I bet its the same story with Lomachenko too....high profile and short money. Igor KGB Klimas is not without blame either.
Catchweights, hate them or love them, have been an acceptable way to try an "even things out" when fighters of different weight divisions face in the ring. Who has the bigger history of moving up divisions?
You nailed it. I think the last thing Duva expected was PBC to call her bluff, and it showed. In hindsight, Kovalev would've been better off ditching her and heading across the street to PBC once that fell through. That was a legacy defining fight for both guys that needed to happen, and at least if he'd lost, he'd have been paid well for the fight.
GTFO with that BS. One the biggest purses(if not THE biggest) in Kova's career and he still wants more. Simple as that.
He was a belt holder and it was a unification fight. Plus on paper it was a very competive fight so he was very deserving of the money. All fighters are. Even the ones I do not like. They put their lives on the line every time.
He still wants more? Just like Canelo wants more with his rigged scorecards, WBC favouritism, hydration clauses and PED cheating?
