Maybe Gene Tunney? Tough to say, but he was definitely capable of beating even peak Charles.

In terms of strict beating, Fitzsimmons would always had a chance with his huge power and smarts.

Nobody except Tunney, and even then I don't favor him

If they hadn't actually fought, I'd probably say Archie Moore.

Moore was supposed to have pushed it very close in the second fight and was supposed to be up in the third

Maybe Spinks? Don't know if he could out box him, but his power might get him with his height and reach advantages

Some good points in there. But don't let the Tyson fight fool you as a knock on Spinks at LHW .. I mean facing Prime Mike T at HW is different than Charles at 175

Maybe Tunney, maybe Conn, Maybe Moore, maybe Greb but a peak charles was an animal, I think even the other atgs and light heavyweight wouldn’t have a for sure win

When was Ezzard Charles Really a lightheavyweight?

I would class him as the best lightheavyweight in the heavyweight division. He fought a lot of lightheavyweights and they all fought and heavyweights together.

Charles might have weighed 175lb but he wasn’t exclusively a lightheavyweight more than a few months when he came out of the army.

Before the war Ezzard was below the lightheavyweight limit.
