Listen denier, I've probably been watching boxing since you were in diapers, and in all that time, NOTHING has emerged that is more determinative of the outcome of a fight than punch resistance. Simply put, if you don't have a chin, you're not likely to reach the top of the game.

Or, as in the case of Helenius, or someone like Roy Jones, remain at the top of the game if your chin deteriorates. Look at Helenius, he was winning the fight, as he SHOULD against an inferior fighter like Washington. But his mandible let him down, and he lost.

What about all those right hands he absorbed before the one that hurt him?

Apparently they weren't hard enough punches to put him on the deck. Washington is hardly known as a particularly hard hitter, which is exactly why Helenius getting starched by him shows that his ability to take a punch has deteriorated so much. If he had a solid chin, he would have CONTINUED to absorb those punches. This is what punch RESISTANCE (i.e. "chin") means.

Yeah but glass chin doesn't mean someone who absorbs power shots for 8 rounds

Translation: If a 6'5", 240-pound man punches you flush on the chin with hard right hands for 23 minutes, and you don't blink ... but then he hits you with a hard right hand with everything behind it, right on the point of the chin in the 24th minute, and you go down, you have NO chin.

    LOL.

Helenius showed great punch resistance throughout the fight. Not a single person during the entire fight who was posting on this board said Robert Helenius could no longer take a punch.

The last shot caught him just right. We all saw it.

Zakman: Anyone not equally obsessed with calling out fighters for having a glass jaw after a KO loss is a glass jaw denier

Sugar 88: I think you probably have a glass jaw Zak. And no balls.

Last night when I landed a punch on his fragile mandible, he went right to sleep.

He won't. He lives to accuse fighters of having glass jaws.

Can’t anyone over 200 pounds git hard enough or is that a myth now? yeah washington ain’t a KO artist but he is still a 6 foot 6 heavyweight who is a solid 250

Does being a boxer automatically make your chin stronger? Does being a heavyweight mean your chin is twice as dense as a non heavyweight?

Punch resistance, and power, is proportionate to the size of the combatants. This is why they have weight divisions. There are light hitters in every division, average punchers, and heavy punchers. Similarly, punch resistance exists on a scale from glass (weak) to iron (strong).

Washington, as demonstrated by his fights at the top level, is toward the lighter end of the punching spectrum. And Helenius, these days, is towards the weaker end of the punch resistance spectrum. Hence, the result of this fight.
