With Whitaker no longer with us I thought it would be a good time to reminisce the magnificent skills of the master himself. People tend to remember Whitaker as mostly a great defensive fighter but forget just how good his offense was as well. He wasn't a hard puncher but he did throw many punches and had a great punch output and selection while possessing one of the best jabs. He can switch to an overly defensive style but was also willing to stand and trade if he needed to. What makes him truly great was just how well he blended his offense and elusiveness. He can dance around opponents or he can stand in front and still make you miss while throwing a lot of leather. He wasn't just an amazing defensive fighter, he was also a great offensive fighter as well. Sweet Pea's style was the epitome of the term "sweet science". His footwork is incredible, and should be a staple of how any southpaw should set up jabs and crosses
It's great how we can still appreciate his skills and share video's demonstrating his talent. Now that he is no longer on earth, his legacy remains solid and people will still be amazed at what he did.
Incredible boxer with a ATG jab defense and a true stylistic nightmare if there ever was one. They don't make em like Pea anymore.

He wasn't offensive enough against his stiffest opposition which is what lead to him losing those decisions vs Chavez and Delahoya. Was extremely brilliant in what he did though which was stand in the pocket, duck, dip, and swerve out of harms way. So sad that he goes out the way he did, crossing the street, which he likely was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol which Pernell has had issues with.
He was Chavez's daddy that night and Chavez not only knew it but also knew he was a beaten man and about to be given a very stinking corrupt robbery decision. You know that wiry smile that devil kids give when they tell a little porkie, that was Chavez.
